BMW India has decided to reveal a facelifted version of its coveted compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) X1 on February 14. This crossover has already been launched in the Malaysian market and made an impact at the 2012 New York Auto Show. Though the engine on the vehicle would be the same, its power rating is expected to go up to 380 Nm.

Several changes have been made on the external front. Headlamps have got new LED corona rings, which can be seen in a few variants. The front bumper looks heavily contoured and sockets for fog lamps look more prominent than the current X1. Its rear bumper has been also redesigned to match the front fascia. Three variants of the X1, namely base, xLine and Sportline will be available. Design elements such as front and rear aprons, side skirt covers and revised air intake and kidney grille slats are common on the xLine and the Sportline. Special door sills with xLine and BMW Sport badging will be visible on the two vehicles.

On the inside, a new navigation system fitted with an 8.8-inch screen has been provided. In addition, a panorama glass roof, power seats, rain sensing wipers and a heated steering wheel will be optional on the model. The engine of the new X1 has been fitted with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Its start/stop technology will help individuals in conserving fuel, resulting in low running cost. Brake energy regeneration, ECO PRO mode and a disengagable compressor are also on offer with the new model.

From the mechanical perspective, the X1 is set to get more powerful versions of current engines with start-stop function and a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. However, it will be the same 177 bhp 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine that will power the new X1 in India, though it has received some changes in international markets.
