Exterior
The exteriors of BMW 3 Series are one of the best things to look forward. Not just the designing elements, but chrome finishing and character lines all over give the car a magnificent look. Its side profile gets highlighted owing to the set of attractive multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the rear end, the car got chrome painted exhaust pipe and an aggressive boot lid, which features the auto maker's moniker embedded neatly at the centre. At the front fascia, the kidney bean-shaped radiator grille features eleven slats painted in chrome. Another key highlight of the car is its headlight cluster, which now has bi-xenon headlights and LED DRLs.
Interior
BMW 3 Series got plush interiors, decorated in a very extraordinary way. The color scheme used at interiors is complimented by chrome inserts and fine wood works. The seats are quite wide and offer a decent level of comfort to the occupants. The dashboard of this car has an instrument cluster, stylish center console and air conditioner vents. One of the key USPs of BMW 3 Series include ConnectedDrive function, which is compatible with quite a few applications, besides supporting Bluetooth connectivity. The iDrive system of this car features a 16.5 cm color screen. Along with this, there is an advanced infotainment system, which has a decent sound output. In order to offer a comfortable drive, the car sports features like cup holders, rear center armrest, roller sun blinds, interior mirror with automatic anti-dazzle function and smoker’s package.
Engine and Transmission
BMW has offered its 3 Series in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol trim comes equipped with 2.0-litre petrol engine, which has a displacement of 1997 cc. The maximum power produced by this engine stands at 245 bhp with a peak torque of 350 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel version also features a 2.0-litre engine, which has a displacement of 1995 cc. The peak power output of this engine stands at 184 bhp with a torque output of 380 Nm.
Performance and Handling
BMW 3 Series has a well-designed structure, which is strong yet light in weight. This feature provides agility and precision in steering the car. The tubeless tyres of 3 Series are specially designed to provide an enhanced grip and smooth drive over Indian potholes. The petrol version covers a distance of 14.79 kmpl while the diesel version returns a mileage of 18.8 kmpl. In a sprint of 0 to 100 kmph, the petrol 3 Series takes just 6.1 seconds, further clocking a top speed of 250 kmph. On the other hand, to achieve the same feat the diesel counterpart takes around 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 235 kmph. The power assisted steering wheel features tilt adjustment function and thus makes maneuvering much easy for the driver even in busty city traffic.
Braking System
3 Series comes equipped with a reliable braking system. A sturdy set of disc brakes are equipped at both front and rear wheels. Along with, there is Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), which further enhances the braking mechanism. The car has seat belts for all the passengers, while a warning triangle and first aid kit in case of emergency is also provided in the car.
Verdict
BMW 3 Series is a well-suited car as it contains a variety of engines and variants for every budget. However, the diesel version is frighteningly economical. The comfort level is firm, but chassis is so sharp that it strictly responds to the slightest of inputs delivered by steering, and thus it can be said that if the driver is having fun, rear passenger usually don't. As far as design is concerned, 3 Series is counted among the best-looking cars in its segment. In terms of quality, it has each and everything a Rs. 35 lakh car should have. If handling is concerned, 3 Series can be termed as sportscar, which has a boot and 4 doors.
Competition
BMW 3 Series efficiently competes with the likes of Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz CLA and Volvo S60. All these cars are placed in the same segment and it is really very difficult to ascertain one winner from the abovementioned pack.

- Appealing exteriors
- Performance oriented engine
