You can’t mention the term automotive legends and not have the 911 in it. Porsche cars have been on the top-lists of critics and enthusiasts alike, for a long time. But the world is changing, and thanks to a combination of factors, including but not limited to dwindling fossil fuel resources and the need for a cleaner environment, cars too are changing. Alternate-fuel cars, like it or not, are getting increasingly mainstream.

Which brings us to the Porsche Mission E. The manufacturer stunned the world, when it took the wraps off it, at the Motor show in Franfurt, last year. It caused an even greater stir when the company announced that they’re targeting a commercial release, before the end of the decade.

Now, all-electric cars are no rarity, even in the fast, sports-car realm. But when someone like Porsche cars declares their intention to build their first-ever vehicle to be powered by nothing but some volts of electricity, the whole world sits up & takes notice. The manufacturer has already begun putting its might behind the project. Investments are expected to go up to the tune of 700 million Euros, and Porsche has already negotiated a lower wage bill from the infamous worker unions. This massive funding shall go a long way towards commissioning a new assembly plant, and the expansion of the existing engine-works.

It has also been learned that Volkswagen, who happens to be Porsche’s parent company, has given an all-encompassing green-light to the project, particularly the all-electric drivetrain front. This should help the firm in recovering some ground after having spent the better part of last year taking flak for their emissions cheating code in the cars.

The Porsche Mission E concept offers a tantalizing 600bhp output and its four-door silhouette is more cutting edge Porsche Panamera, than any other car. Designed to seat four in a 2+2 combination, the Mission E features gorgeous detailing attention, such as the infinity LED light strip stretching across the rear. Clamshell-rear doors, the matte-white paint with contrasting black-and-white alloys only serve to heighten the feeling.

The Mission E concept is designed to cross the ton is less than 3.5 seconds, as it proudly wears the Porsche cars crest at the front, with top-speeds well in excess of 155 mp/h! Moreover, it shall come with all-wheel drive, thanks to the dual-drive motors in the car. Porsche is trying every trick in the book to keep the road-hugging characteristics intact, including mounting the battery pack, as low to the ground as it can.

Porsche is also trying new charging tech, to take the car from 0-80% charge in less than one hour & has turned to their Le Man’s experience for inspiration.
