Nissan maybe a relatively underrepresented brand in India but it has had an illustrious history over the years. Best known for iconic vehicles such as the Patrol full-size SUV and the X-Trail, Nissan cars are considered to be rugged, with bullet-proof reliability and some of the most technologically advanced cars to be sold.

      Nissan x-trail hybrid

The Japanese manufacturer is known to being an innovation driven brand and is a key player in the alternate fuel powertrain development ecosystem. Here’s taking a closer look at one of the important models in its lineup, the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi and should be in showrooms soon:

Nissan cars were typically known for their no-nonsense approach when it came to exterior styling. Having sampled the off-road centric X-Terra, the X-Trail too, in its previous avatar, would evoke those same memories. But the 2016 model range is finally showing signs of softening up a bit. Just like this year’s Patrol, the X-Trail Hybrid too seems to have shed its square jawed lineage.

The previous generation of the X-Trail would almost go unnoticed, but this one makes you sit up and take notice. The new car is full of curves and has more than a hint of the smaller, funkier Juke in its styling. In terms of physical dimensions, it has the chief competitor, Honda’s CRV squarely in its sights. The X-Trail is longer than the CRV while being just as wide, therefore coming across as better proportioned than the latter. Thankfully, the larger dimensions haven’t been limited to the exterior alone and the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid has oodles of space to seat five in full comfort. There’s fine hide covering large swathes of the cabin, and the car is loaded to the gills with creature comforts. The cupholders are cooled while the ORVM’s feature a heating function that should help improve rear visibility during foggy conditions.

But the main star here is the powertrain and FF hybrid system (Nissan speak for petrol-hybrids in FWD configuration). The 2 litre, quad cylinder petrol develops 140 bhp and 200 Nm torque. The electric motor bumps this up to 185 bhp and more importantly, 360 Nm of torque. Coupled with the revolutionary double clutch system the Nissan X-Trail Hybrid is going to offer a driving & ownership experience that has not been seen till date, when it arrives at Indian showrooms later this year.
