There’s no denying that the cars from German trio – Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW – are among the most popular celebrity cars in India. Both Bollywood and cricket celebrities own several cars from these brands.

      Sourav ganguly and his car

Just like Bollywood celebrities and their rich collection of automobiles, people are crazy for cricketers and their cars as well. Sourav Ganguly, the royal Bengal tiger, might have retired from the cricket, but his love for swanky and expensive cars remains eternal. He has always been known for his captainship qualities, fine cricketing skills and affluent lifestyle.

From his ODI debut in 1992 to his spectacular arrival on the Test-cricket scene in 1996, Sourav Ganguly has been one of the most successful cricketers India has ever seen. An excellent batsman & a useful change bowler, he managed to maintain a healthy batting average of 40+ in both forms of the game throughout his career, while also achieving a sub 60 strike rate when bowling. Sourav Ganguly’s greatest contribution to the game however, is the way in which he went on to forge the Indian cricket team into a formidable force & embark on a successful journey on the world scene in a way that had been previously unseen.

He is the richest Indian cricketer and owns the largest collection of cars among all cricketers. Though there is no clarity on the total number of Sourav Ganguly cars, his collection includes 20 Mercedes-Benz, 4 BMW, Audis and various other plush models.  The latest to join the list of Sourav Ganguly cars is the Mercedes-Benz CLK Convertible worth Rs. 46, 55, 000.

The Mercedes-Benz CLK, launched in 2002, was discontinued in 2009, after the A207 E-Class convertible and C207 E-Class Coupe replaced it. This convertible model has been among the most popular celebrity cars in India. The CLK was a rear-wheel drive luxury car, available in two body style – coupe and convertible. The luxury saloon was offered in luxury Elegance and sporty Avantgrade versions.

The Elegance trim was featured with polished alloy wheels and burled walnut paint, while the sports version had aluminum trim, sportier and wider wheels. The Avantgrade was also available with an exclusive Sport package that includes 18-inches alloys and interior upgrade. The CLK convertible featured a remote-operated automatic soft-top stuffed under sensor controlled roll bars and a metal tonneau.

The convertible is loaded with plenty of comfort-enhancing features such as 10-way power front seats, a Tele aid emergency assistance system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, four side airbags, MOST (Media oriented serial transport) media system and automatic dual-zone air conditioning. Features like bi-xenon HID headlamps, keyless go system, parktonic system and navigation system were optional offerings. The CLK was available in three engine options – a 3.2-litre, a 5.0-litre and a 5.5-litre. Both petrol and diesel engines are ranging from 4-8 cylinders.
