      The term 'Nayi Gaadi' (New Car) does not hold weightage unless you actually buy a big car – Sedan. Sedan cars in India are not just a regular mode of commute, they are more of a status symbol in the country.

      Some of the top sedans in India are:

      German carmaker BMW plans to unveil its new 3-series GT during the upcoming event. The new 3 Series GT will be made available in two diesel engine options- 4-cylinder 320d and 6-cylinder 330d. As per reports, both the engines shall be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

      Hyundai Xcent based on Grand i10 platform is likely to be powered by either 1.2-litre kappa dual VTVT petrol or a 1.1-litre U2 technology diesel engines. Sources close to the development process have revealed that the auto maker has incorporate a number of features in this sedan, such as revised front and rear bumpers, provision of LED lights and touchscreen entertainment unit with Bluetooth connectivity. Also, the company may give out a fluidic design to this sedan for an appealing look.

      Nissan Sunny, the top selling sedan for the Japanese carmaker is set to unveil the 2014 version of its bestseller. As per sources, the car shall be powered by 110PS 1.5-litre DCi diesel engine mated to 6-speed gearbox. On the exteriors, the car shall feature split V shaped grille loaded with generous amounts of chrome over it. Major technical changes are not expected, but the exterior has undergone the knife to look bolder and better than before!

      Luxury car maker Audi, has planned to showcase the A3 sedan during the upcoming event. It is expected that the car may be offered for takers, sometime later during the year. The A3 is powered by a 1.8-litre TFSI petrol engine, and a 2.0-litre diesel engine variant. Both the fuel types are borrowed from the existing line of Audi car that have been successful on local soil. It is anticipated that the car may feature the regular S-tronic dual-clutch transmission mated with 6-speed gear box.

      The new Corolla Altis has been introduced in a Petrol version and is available in two variants. The car is amongst the best petrol sedans in the country. As per sources, this sedan is based on Furia concept car, its wheelbase has been extended by 100mm, and is said to be longer and wider than the current existing version. The Toyota Corolla Altis shall be powered by 1.8 litre petrol engine that delivers maximum power output of 151PS and 190Nm of top torque. It is anticipated that the car may be mated to a four-speed automatic transmission or be used on six-speed manual transmission.

      Honda City has been in the country for over a decade now and tops the list for sedan cars in India. The new Honda City Petrol is powered by 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine that generates a modest power output of 119 PS at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm torque at 4600 rpm. Anticipated fuel efficiency for automatic and manual version is approximate 18 kmpl, but it is said that the manual version delivers slightly lower. The new diesel counterpart features a 1.5 litre –DTECH engine that powers the car with an output of 100 PS at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm of Torque at 1750 rpm. Based on ARAI reports, the Honda City diesel delivers an impressive 26 kmpl.

      The much anticipated Tata’s sub-four-meter sedan – ‘Zest’ has finally made its public appearance and features in the list for sedan cars in India. The Zest sedan is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The highly-efficient and powerful Revotron 1.2T turbocharged Intercooled MPFi petrol powertrain delivers a peak power output of 83.8bhp @ 5000rpm and 140Nm of torque @ 1750- 3500rpm. The car is expected to compete against Mahindra Verito.

      Honda Amaze has come up with a new ‘S’ variant, the SX variant will now also include front dual airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS), which is a standard facility on all diesel variants of the Amaze and the petrol ‘VX’. The Amaze houses the 1.2L i-VTEC petrol mill and the 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine under its hood. With a maximum power output of 98bhp, the diesel mill returns a monstrous mileage to the tune 25.8kmpl. The car now has a total of 12 variants on offer i.e. E, EX, S, SX, VX [petrol and diesel], and S AT & VX AT [only petrol]. The sedan is positioned to compete against Ford Classic cars.

      Hyundai Verna has been around for a while. The new car comes with a complete overhaul featuring a bigger and sportier stance than before. The new car came to be known as the Verna Fluidic and is available in 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre option. The 1.6-liter CRDi engine generates about 126bhp of maximum power and 259Nm of top torque. Cabin space in the Hyundai Verna Fluidic has an elegant and refreshing feel to it. On the exterior front the car features prominent curves that flow through the entire body. Hyundai Verna 1.4 liter delivers a fuel efficiency of 23.50kmpl, whereas the 1.6 litre diesel variant delivers 22.32kmpl

      The latest and freshest entry in the diesel sedan is the Volkswagen Vento. The car is powered by 1.6-liter DOHC diesel engine which is capable of generating max power of 127 bhp with 260 Nm of top torque. The 1.6 variant is available in 6 speed manual transmission and four speed automatic transmission options. The diesel car is also available in 1.4-liter CRDi diesel engine that generates a max power of 89bhp with peak torque of 220Nm. The Volkswagen Vento delivers a decent fuel efficiency of 20.54 kmpl.
