Mahindra e2o is an all-electric car, which is designed and manufactured by the electric division of the home-grown auto manufacturer – Mahindra Reva. Not long ago, the car was showcased as a concept named NXR during the Auto Expo and since the unveiling, it was eagerly awaited to go into production. The car was launched finally for prospective buyers during the mid-2013 and was tagged with the price of Rs. 4.80 lakh – Rs. 6.40 lakh. From the outlook, Mahindra e2o might not astonish everyone but it is he inside of the car that matters. The battery tapped under the hood of this green car is of longer-life, eco-friendly and offer a greater distance range than any other normal batteries present in other cars in India. The car is available for sales in two trims, namely – T01, which is the base model and T2, which is he premium.
Mahindra e2o is incorporated with a 3-phase induction motor, which delivers a power output of 19 bhp in the base model and 25 bhp in the premium variant. The maximum torque, however, is almost the same in both variants and is measured at 53 Nm. The batteries used in the car are 48V maintenance-free lithium-ion type, which are considered more reliable and environmental-friendly than any other battery. The transmission provided in both the models is automatic and thereby, offers the convenience of smooth gear shifts to the driver. The entire energy to the induction motor is provided by the lithium-ion batteries, which take just 5 hours to get fully charged and offer a range of 100 km to the car in full capacity. Sine, there is no conventional fuel type or engine fitted in the car, therefore, the emissions are not hazardous and much safer for the environment.
The overall dimensions of this electric hatchback car are measured at 3280 mm at length, 1514 mm at width, 1560 mm at height and 1198 mm at wheelbase. It has a decent ground clearance of 170 mm and its weight is measured at less than 900 kg. The car uses 3-crumpled zone type chassis and dent resistance body panel; thus providing safety comfort to the occupants. In full throttle, the car can reach a top speed of almost 130 kmph and is provided with disc-drum type brake configuration to further strengthen its safety aspect. The suspensions at the front are McPherson Strut type with Anti Roll Bar at front axle and trailing link with coil spring over damper at the rear. Notably, the car uses regenerative braking to also charge the battery while the car is decelerating.
The Mahindra e2o also features modern equipment at the inside for the convenience and entertainment purposes of the passengers. Features of push start engine button, remote hatch release, power windows, ORVMs, GPS navigation, Driver Information System, Infotainment System and Reva App Store are provided in the car. For the safety purposes of the occupants, provisions of follow-me-home headlamps, reverse parking camera and assist, dual slide impact beams, immobiliser, all-passenger seatbelts and rear-defogger are given in the car as well.
