To charge these green vehicles, there are ample electric car chargers available in the domestic market. These chargers are of various capacity and work under different power source conditions for each battery. Usually, the electric car chargers arrive with the vehicles but the same can be bought from the market also. Depending upon the type of charging an individual needs for his/her electric cars; these chargers can supply 120 V, 240 V or 480 V of power. The chargers providing 480 V of power are the DC fast chargers and are used to power the drained battery in a quick time.

Almost all the electric cars in India use AC level 1 and level 2 types charging, whereas, some of them also have the provision of a DC fast charging port. Charging these vehicles requires the support of an Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), which is available at various electric power stations and can also be easily set up at home. The electric car chargers are manufactured and classified on the basis of the rate of charging different batteries. Some of the cars, such as Mahindra Reva are all-electric vehicles, whereas other can be a hybrid, which uses the combination of conventional electric motor and a battery pack.

The battery pack for all-electric vehicles is generally of higher capacity as they are the sole source for running the car, whereas the hybrid cars comprise low-capacity batteries. Furthermore, almost all the hybrid vehicles have the utility of regenerative braking, which allows the electric motor to get charged whenever the car is decelerated. On the other hand, the all-electric cars completely utilise a single power source and have a low distance range. The electric cars in India generally need 6-10 hours to get fully charged on a standard power output. The likes of Mahindra Reva e2o have the option of DC fast charging and the company has installed a number of stations in various parts of the country for the same.
