How Electric Cars Work?

The present world has witnessed a number of prospective buyers tending to go for all-electric vehicles owing to their eco-friendly and fuel-efficient nature. The Indian automotive industry has also experienced this effect and people of the nation are constantly getting inclined towards electric vehicles. A number of electric cars in India are manufactured by the domestic auto giants whereas, a fair amount is also shared by overseas companies. These green cars produce zero-emission and help in preserving the healthy state of environment. Such eco-friendly cars use a battery pack to draw energy for running instead of a conventional engine.

Although, people are planning to buy these vehicles, most of them are still unaware as to how exactly they work. The electric vehicles are powered by a battery pack, usually a lithium-ion, and can be recharged with the help of a standard power source. The way these cars work varies completely from the traditional motors and their mode of operation is as follows:

  1. The engine of these green cars is solely an electric motor, which gets few controller to adjust power supply. The battery pack sends power to the controller, which then directs it to the motor.

  1. The accelerator pedal of such fuel-efficient cars is connected to variable resistors, which direct the controller in turn as to how much power should be delivered to the motor. Thus, meaning the the amount of pressure put by the driver on to the accelerator pedal governs the motion of the vehicle.

  1. A charger is further added to the battery pack to ensure they get recharged at household source or a company-established power plant. The batteries of these eco-friendly cars can be charged through the standard 110 or 220 V source. There are also the DC fast-charging stations in some areas that help in providing quick charging to these electric vehicles.

  1. Few of these green cars also use the technique of regenerative braking to increase their overall range. In this technology, the battery pack receives a considerable amount of energy whenever the car decelerates. The regenerative braking may help to increase the entire range of such eco-friendly cars by an impressive 20 percent if done correctly.

The range of these electric cars vary from 100 km to 150 km depending upon the quantity and type of battery pack used in them. Earlier, the use of lead-acid battery pack resulted in low fuel efficiency and extra drainage of power but with the usage of lithium-ion, these figures have steeply enhanced. At present, auto giants are striving to create electric cars, which are high on power as well as range. Several companies have even launched sports electric models, which can attain high speeds and accelerate swiftly. The upcoming time is expected to be crucial for the electric vehicle industry and one can witness several cars getting launched in this segment.
