Aston Martin Rapide

Summary

The Rapide is Aston Martin’s only car that will let you drive with your wife and kids. Not that it isn’t allowed for Aston Martins, but because this is the only four-seater that rolls out of the British factory. And then, there is also the erstwhile legacy of being James Bond that you have to carry every time you step in to or out of an Aston Martin.

Exterior

If it is not mistaken for a Ford by the average Joe, the Rapide gets the trademark Aston Martin grille. The winged emblem on the long hood, the hunched wheel arches, the raked A-pillar and the sloping coupe-ish roof make the Rapide looks its part as a sportscar. The two doors do not give away the fact that you can seat four inside. The Rapide looks fast but not menacing as some other Astons.

Interior

The British are known for their luxury cars. Even if they do not run very often, they will certainly keep you comfortable. The cabin performance focused and tastefully laid out, wrapped in quality leather.  The three-spoke steering wheel gets paddle shifters along with other controls. The creature comforts of climate control, power seats, adjustable steering column for rake and reach et al are astandard.

Engine Transmission

The Rapide is powered by the legendary 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 petrol engine. It produces 470bhp of power at 6000rpm and a huge 600Nm of torque at 5000rpm. Mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, the power is sent to the right set of wheels .

Performance & Handling

The Rapide is a large car and weighs a shade under two tonnes. But for its size and weight, it is pretty quick and is limited at a top speed of 250kmph. Handling, like in all other Aston Martins, is something to look forward to.

Braking System

For the power that it develops and the speeds it is capable of, the Aston Martin Rapide gets all-four discs with four-piston calipers as standard with ABS and EBD as standard.

Mileage

The 5935 cc Petrol - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 7 kmpl in city and 9 kmpl on highways.

Safety Features

It gets 6 airbags, two in the front, two full length side curtain airbags and two side airbags to create a cocoon of safety furthered by the electronic stability program and a host of other driver aids.

The Aston Martin Rapide is a fantastic car. It will take you across continents without breaking a sweat and let you have fun behind the wheel while keeping you comfortable all the time.
