What is the optimum duration between 2 oil changes in a new diesel car? Should we change engine oil at every 5000 kms? Can we trust the words of the personnel at the service station? It could also be possible that they are asking you to change oil prematurely just to get more money by servicing your car, in the case of paid service.
Mine is Ford Ikon TDCi which I bought in july 2009.
I had one oil change at 5427 kms in Jan 2010. The next service is due in the last week of July '10. By then, my car would've run close to 10,500kms only.
sir, should I change oil in my july 2010 service or can I wait till the January 2011 service and say 16,000 kms by that time and change oil only then, ie in january 2011. Will there be any harm to my car if I do so?.
Please advise.

Go by the company advice, they should certainly have a servicing schedule in place for Ikon TDCi. I guess a few of initial servicing would be for each 5000 kms , but after that it would mostly be for every 10000 kms.

Hi,
Generally the engine oils can be used running upto 8 to10K KM max.However for new cars it would be recommendable to get the engine oil changed as per scdule as mentioned in owners manual. The main thing is the warranty back up.If the engine oil is not changed as per schedule then in case of any related problems getting warranty would be difficult.Once Warranty limit is over, you can plan and take calculated risks.
