I am a senior citizen .I have Maruti Zen Dec.2004 model total km 28000. monthly runing one hundred kms. for 6 month I was in US .after return gave car for seving.

Engine Oil was changes 2 years back after that runing was only 2000kms. the oil level and color was very transparent.
Still we changed the engine oil.

I also told maruti dealer to check gear oil & change if required which was changed 3 years back.
After serving I was told that there is no need to change gear oil and we will change it after 6 months. Is this ok?
On one hand they told me to change engine oil though it was looking good & not gear oil. Please advise.

Yes, this ie perfectly all right. Transmission oil and engine oil are different compounds. Engine oil has much more to do other than lubricate your engine, taking heat and combustion leftovers away in its duty cycle. Transmission oil on the other hand, has a longer life cycle since it only lubricates and is not forced to undergo much change in composition over its duty cycle. You were advised right! Happy driving.

PLEASE JET CLEAN YOUR ENGINE ONCE THEN CHANGE ENGINE OIL AFTER 5K KILOMETER OR IN 3 MONTH CHANGE GEAR BOX OIL IN EVERY 10 K KILOMETER OR IN 6 MONTH. BELIEVE ME YOUR CAR ENGINE AS ROCKET.

Hi,
The frequency of changeing gear oil and engine oil is different. The frequency of changeing engine oil is more because of the heat and dust particles it is subjected to.Its quite acceptable inchangeing engine oil and taking time ofr changeing gear oil.

Advice given by the service centre is ok, but the vehicle is not is use or not covered specified kms for oil change then you can continue for some additional kms. If engine gives starting trouble / not smooth running in idealing then change the engine oil.

As per the details for your car it hasnt run for 3 years, the servce centre peoples did the right thing, If u have any problems after the use or gear changing shows any problmes ,then you has to change the gear oil, otherwise this is ok

Hi,
I have a Zen Lxi 2004 January model. I am using this car
only after 10 months every year because I am a NRI. After
3 free services, I am changing Oil every 2 years because my
useage is limited yearly(2000Kms maximum only). Every 2 years I am changing engine oil and filling brake oil, coolent etc. Maruti agent is giving a full chckeup and filling of such oils (except engine oil) in Rs.250/-. So far
I am not facing any problems and the car is working very good. Also, the A/C is working good I did not changed any
belts or any components. Thanks to MarutiUdyog Ltd.

If the car is kept in a good parking lot and within 10 days
intervals giving a start and allow to run 20 minutes, you don't worry about the engine & battery. Engine oil should be changed as per the density or colour change. Check the oil periodically if it is loose or colur change. Other wise you don't worry about Maruti Zen.

I would prefer changing the Gear Oil also. Even if it is considered a mistake, I would like err on the positive side.
