Dear Shiva/ Friends

I own a Safari 3.0 Ltr 2007 model, I have done 147K Kms
I am facing a thick black smoke problem only when I reverse or if I am driving in high gear at low speed
and moreover when the RPM is 1500 when in running condition. I have got the injectors checked, I have also got the silencers decarbonised but surprisingly it doesnt give any smoke when I am driving at high speed,.

Kindly suggest

Hi Sudhanshu!!

Mine is a black coloured Chandigarh registered. What surprises me is there is no smoke at 2000-3000 Rpm at even
150Km/hr.

From what you have stated it seems that there is excess supply of diesel the vehicle must be having a poor average per litre of diesel .the earlier version of safari had this problem of black smoke whenever there is some load on the engine specially with ac on.you will have to get the complete injection system checked there many good mechanics of safari in chd.

Hi,
As black smoke problem is there in particular rpm only, the problem coul dlie in FIP calibration and the same needs to be rechecked.

Hi,
One quick thought and question.

Even if your Safari emits the same amount of smoke at a higher speed say 150Km/hr, you may not bee able to notice it. Because, it gets diluted in air fast in that speed. So dont go for a decision with visual effect. Did u ever try to see the smoke volume in the night in the headlights of a following vehicle?.. say a car. The smoke is more visible than in the day time. I lerned it from my Yamaha RX [While i was using some low cost oil with petrol].

My feeling is The smoke volume may be the same in all speeds for a purticular RPM. So better get it checked as Rajiv said

HI THE QUESTION IS VERY GENUINE,ONE I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR QUITE A TIME NOW.THE BEST WAY TO ATLEAST LESSEN THE BLACK SMOKE WOULD BE TO ADD FLUSH TO THE OLD ENGINE OIL AND START THE VEHICLE ALLOWING THE FLUSH TO CIRCULATE INSIDE THE ENGINE.THIS WOULD DO SOME GOOD FOR THE CAUSE.IF NOT ITS BETTER NOT TO WASTE MONEY ON CHECKING ...CHECKING AND GOING TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE FOR ADVICE.HOPE THIS MAY HELP...THANKS.

Dude im auto engg
The thick clack smoke is due to heavy load condition at low speed
This means that u drive ur vehicle in a higher gear at low speed regularle
Check for worn piston rings and crankshaft bearings
Check for worn piston or cylinder block
