i feel toyota prius is a good bet bt its costly, is there any othr vehicle with batterry operated so that i can buy at the earliest

Depends on your need and budget. Reva is there and Chevy Spark (electric) will be there soon witth the prrice tag of Rs. 7,00,000/- aprox.

Currently Reva electric is availale in electric cars.
Other Electric car can be expected before end of 2010.
