HI,
I drive a Maruti swift vdi, done abt 56000 kms.
though i love the way the engine delivers, the car is more of an irritating embarrassment to drive on even slighty rough roads. the plastics, rubbers, doors all SQUEAK in perfect dis-harmony. i've had the car checked up almost 2-3 times at the authorised dealer, but they all tell me its a "genuine" swift problem that everything rattles.
i am a kind of driver who loves a nice silent smooth ride and none of which the swift delivers. body parts rattle the irritaing gutts outta me, so i started listening to a little louder music to kill the body rattle.
why does maruti have to compromise on so much just to deliver higher mileage from a engine that fiat blessed them with.if it werent for this lovely diesel engine from fiat, wonder who's be buying a swift.

Hi,
Its surprising to hear such problem with successful Swift and equally surprising to know feedback from dealer.

Nothing surprising at all here, and you are not the first Swift owner that I personally know of that has this complaint. It is a genuine embarrassment from Maruti. It is a beautiful powerplant from Fiat, but somewhere in the process of making it fit into a Swift, Maruti has failed to take care of particularly this issue. Very annoying that a lower priced Fiat Palio with the same engine has no such problems and is solid on the road. You could, however, find a high end mechanic who can re-engineer some parts of the car to solve this problem for you.

You are right Swift has this problem. For the first few kms it drives beautifully but after about 20000 km its a bullock cart. Mileage is also nothing great on the Petrol model.

The suspenion also hardens up and the ride quality become s bad. Such a beautiful car with such petty issues not properly taken care of by Maruti.

I have a problem with the clutch and gear too which the company has not been able to solve........be careful before buy a swift now.

Common Problem In All Maruti Cars. Basically All Indian Cars Are Not Road Tested Before They Hit Roads. I Know It Is Really Embarrassing When Car Rattles, I had The Same Problem In Ma Swift Too. There Are More Problems Infact.... Bad Ground Clearance, Worst Braking, Rattling Sound (One Of The Major Issues) Low Quality Tires, Bad Clutch, Low Quality Metal Etc. Hmmmmmmm..... Ok. You Have Bought The Car Now What???? All These Can Be Improved By Taking Your Car To A Good Machanic

1.Rattling Can be Stopped To Some Extent By Getting Your Car Dampering For All Doors & back. But If You Want Your car To Be 100% Rattle Free, Better Change Your Car To FIAT Punto Or I20 Etc (I Would Suggest You To Take Your Car To "EB Bass" For Dampering)

This is something i am living with the rattling noise from Swift. I have done 53000 km and right since 20k i have been facing this problem. Contacted the service and i was told that this was Maruti's cost cutting measures. Thank god they dint tinker the fiat engine. As Xerxes said just for the engine i still own this vehicle. Vehicle is a hell with all sort of noise. "Maruti uses cheap plastics and these are cost cutting measure to compete and keep the price tag low" these were said by one of their service manager. Hey not just plastics look at the tyres. Most of the swifts come with JK tyres. How could Maruti compromise on tyres. They have used the cheapest available tyres in the market. Unfortunately, my swift has JK tyres and two of my swift's tyres have uneven wear out and the service center again blames the quality of tyre. All except the engine has been compromised. Any one looking for a Swift (be it petrol or diesel) and plans to clock more than 35000 km then look in for a different vehicle. You may not enjoy the drive well you can provied you get a better music system or get a bose noise canceling headphones (exaggerating a bit :)). You are buying a noisy rattling vehicle.

HI FRIENDS,
100 % FACTS AHEAD , BUT WHO'S GOING TO LISTEN.... BSE , IF U ASK TO ANYBODY WHO DONT EVEN KNOW ABT SWIFT ALSO WILL SAY.... ITS SUPERB. NONE OF THE GREAT MAGAZINES WILL REPORT THESE ISSUES, OTHER THAN SHOWING SOME SCENES OF THEIR MODELS DRIVING THE CAR AND WILL BE SAYIYNG SOMETHING WHICH THEY HAVE LEARNED BYHEART FROM THE BROUCHER.- BSE WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS PERFORMING AN AD-FILM FOR THE COMPANY.

THE MAIN ISSUE OF THIS CAR IS THAT, ALL THESE MARUTHI CARS ARE BUILT FOR PETROL ENGINES. IT SIMPLY SUITS THE FIAT ENGINE TO THE SAME VEHICLE WITHOUT GIVING THE STRENGHTHENINGS ( NOT EVEN FOR THE SUSPENSION) NECESSARY FOR A DIESEL ENGINE CAR . EVEN RITZ WILL BE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
MARUTI OFFERS ONLY 45000 KMS WARRANTY FOR THOSE ENGINES WHILE FIAT AND TATA OFFERS 75000 KMS WARRANTY FOR THE SAME ENGINE. EVEN THAT TOO SEEMS TO BE FISHY... EVEN THE INITIAL LAUNCH OF SWIFT WAS FAILURE, AND NOTHING BUT THE FIAT DIESEL ENGINE BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE BACK IN TRACK..... AND EVEN NOW YOU WILL VERY RARELY SEE ANY SWIFT PETROL CARS ON THE ROAD-- REAL HATSOFF TO FIAT.

Same problem here. Have done 83500 Kms and have driven to extreme north of india. Last service at 81000 kms was quiet good in terms of noise reduction but it has started again. Dont know what to do is it because of poor fitting or absolutely bad plastic fibre used. MS surely knows about this but still cant help.

Hi all.... ya i forgot to add about the Horrific and Terrible braking of the swift under panic situations. i have unfortunately only ONCE been in that situation, and boy, i did miss a dozen heartbeats. i swore to never try to avoid a stray dog that ran outta nowhere across the highway, rather than kill my family in the car. its a scary experience trying to brake in an emergency situation. thanx yogesh for reminding me abt this.
As George mentions the difference in the warranty period (kms) varying between maruti and fiat is also a good point he's brought up. if anyone says maruti has made all these blunders for COST-CUTTING, i really dont buy this crap. a swift VDI costs about 5.56 lac in Aurangabad and the palio stile 1.3SDX fully loaded costs 5.21 on road. so where is the cost cutting visible. when i bought the swift, it cost me 5.75 lac on road. its a VDI without ABS. The Punto dymanic costs around 5.46. and its far superior to the swift. the handling, feel, ride quality, i'd say everything is a pleasure in the punto.
I have driven a Palio diesel for 6 years, done 1.55 lac kms and i must say, the car drove rock solid till the day i sold it. Honestly, if given a chance, i'd luv to own a palio or now a punto. sadly we have to live with our mistakes, and the SWIFT reminds me of this every single day.

If Swift was awarded the COTY -- Car of the year award, it should be clearly mentioned-- award valid only till car does 15-20000 kms.
so many auto mags do keep a car for long term testing, and i'm still wondering, why havent they mentioned anything of this sort. see the reply that Mr. Shiva Shankar -- CarTrade EXPERT has given, seems as if he's shocked to hear my complaints as if they've cropped up today. its a very biased feeling i have now towards roads tests of auto mags. i dont think i would ever trust these road tests. instead use a pal's car for few days and actually check out for myself before buying a new one of what i have driven and tested.
the metal gauge of the swift is yet another headache. i am always looking at my car in a car park to see if anyones leaning on my car. for every time someone does that, it leaves a nasty undulation in the body line.
where is the real trusted, reliable maruti of yester years. my friends have owned the 80's maruti 800 or the maruti 1000, and they still are rock solid.
maruti should stop making these tin-matchboxes and give us a real car for a change.
ideal swift would be --- increase the body gauge by abt 50kgs, better suspension, bigger rims, and most of all less plastic PLEASE.....
the swift could be a really good car if done up properly. thanx to the superb engine (fiat again).

cheers

Hi.
MrXerxes Printer. let me make it clear that I do not favour any Brands, we evaluate on basis of reliability, performance and features etc .When I mentioned its surprising to see the kind of problem, I was refering to sentence "the car is more of an irritating embarrassment to drive on even slighty rough roads" and " i've had the car checked up almost 2-3 times at the authorised dealer, but they all tell me its a "genuine" swift problem that everything rattles". .No doubt the suspension gets harder after such usage, there are complaints of hard riding with long term usage of Swift. Also the answer from Dealer looks quite vague.
As far as choices in new cars in range of 5 lac, most of the time I recommended Grande Punto or Indica Vista(I dont have tie up with Tata or Fiat either).
Can you please let us know if as a owner of Swift you have ever interacted with Maruti Suzuki regional manager in this regard?.

I am not sure what you all are talking about. I have a swift for the past 2 years - and have done about 50,000 kms. Except for very minor squeaking at times, swift runs very very smooth and easy. Maintenance is zero and have no problems with mileage ( I get around 16 / litre in city with AC ).

With regular servicing at an authorised dealer - I have never had any problems. And yes, if you drive like an autodriver and do not visit the service centre as advised, then the car will become a truck. I can assure you !

Hi all,

After reading repeated complaints of the nagging squeeks, one can really conclude that the swift is after all an a car wit an excellent powerplant but a light, flimsy squeeking body. I too get my car serviced very regularly and even after long journeys atleast to have the lube levels checked and air filters cleaned. No complaints ever about the dealer service. It all comes down to the car. I need to keep getting my doors checked every 4-5 months for fitting n alignment. Then the car's nice n silent for a week or so and the squeeks start to creep in slowly all over again. But i would solely NOT blame maruti for this squeeking body, its the HORRIBLE roads to blame too.
The other thing i tried out with the swift vdi is using a remapped ecu i got from italy. The output is now 95 bhp and overtaking which was always a dream is now even more enjoyable. Though we must learn to use this extra bhp wisely or this pocket rocket is sure to end up in another vehicle. If driven with a light foot under 100 or around the 80km/hr mark, the swift now returns a healthy 25.5 km/ltr to me.... I seriously feel ppl ready to spend a little should try out this remapped ecu which costs around 23k, much lesser than the Pete's ecu available in india.
Happy driving.

Hi Rajesh,

Thanks for chipping in with ur advice too. YES my family has bought a new i20 diesel even though it costs a lot more than the swift vdi. atleast they will enjoy a much deserved smoother, quieter, pleasurable drive than most of us swift drivers do.
thanks again,
Happy driving

After reading all the post my doubts have been confirmed.
My friend has a swift and has done about 50k kms and the squeaks are irritable and at worst embarrassing when you have your new in-laws with you (personal experience). On the other hand it is safe to say that Hyundai makes better cars than Maruti if we are to compare two major manufacturers in India. I'm driving my Santro Xing for a while now, have done 49k kms so far. Had experience slight squeaking once at 38k kms and after getting rear seat adjusted/fitted properly at service centre, I have absolutely no complaints in that regard and otherwise.

Maruti is still far behind manufacturers like VW, Skoda, Fiat when it comes to quality parts.

PS- Except for the Fiat sourced MJD.

I bought Dzire which I regret very much. Dealers do not have answer to uneven wear & loud noises. They won't tell you this while selling. Afterwards they claim it is normal with almost all Dzires and maruti also do not have any answer to these problems.

Some people in here say that cars are not road tested before launching.
Do you guys even know that its a standard procedure for ever car manufacturer to test cars 50K + KM before hitting the road known as PP (Pilot Protocol) at MSIL. Wherein they test all the issues before.
When you go for icing the car door trims and few other areas are taken off which if not fitted back properly will rattle. Any icing done will cause some issue :)
Moreover, if you drive car roughly on rough roads any car would rattle.
For rough roads buy a SUV not a hatchback or sedan.
To err is human.
Maruti makes mistakes and it corrects them asap. Recalls cars and improve those things in newer model. That is Maruti cars are hot sellers :)

Thanks & regards.

KD
Maruti used FIAT Sourced MJD back in 2007-08
Now Maruti manufactures its own diesel engines which are the best in India Both in terms of Power & Mileage - The Design is still Fiats but Maruti has modified it according to them.

No car is a perfect car.
It all depends on handling.
