Hi,
In the price range mentioned the main competition is among Swift,Punto,Ritz,Indica Vista.Among those its easy to choose one depending upon trust factor for the brand. Although all the cars mentioned have their own advantages, considering overll factors like body style and build quality,engine and features.Punto will be a good selection.

As mentioned by Shiva shankar the car in choice are Swift and Ritz from Maruti, Punto and Vista from Tata-Fiat. All are 4 Hatch with same Fiat Mutiljet engine, so there is little to choose about enjine and mileage. However there are other thing to concern.
If your car is 100% chaufer driven then go for Vista - it has the best rear seat space and leg space.
If your car is 100% self driven then go for Swift- it is most fun to drive.
If you want looks and style then go for Fiat Grand Punto - it is best looking, in fact stunning.
If you want a little of everything and your car is a mix of self drive and chauffer drive then go for Ritz.
Dont go for i20 diesel or Fabia diesel they do not worth the extra lakh they charge.

The choice you have is already clear. The Punto is a good choice but rear space is extremely limited and is expensive to maintain. The Ritz is a bit of everything and is probably worth every rupee you will pay.

Ritz has the worst rear side (hatch) design that anyone can think off!! Punto seats are foldable and has great design plus large BHP/torgue and gives better mileage 23 km plus). Therefore, go for the top end version of Grand Punto, that has wider tyres and alloy wheels.
