How is the intake of air is controlled in ACC cars? It will take the fresh air for sometime and will change into recirculation mode or it will keep on getting the fresh air until we switch on the recirculation mode?

Most of the ACC have button to turn on ON/OFF re circulation.
e.g. In i20 Press AUTO and ACC gets ON and set the temperature and fan speed as per outside temperature(HOT in winters and Cold in Summers) with fresh air mode, press the recirculation button separately if you wish to turn it ON.
That's what is in i20

Hi AD,
Got ur point, but want to know whether the fresh air and recirculated air will swap automatically? For example, I switched on the Auto AC (temp set at 24c) and the running the car continuously for 40 minutes, will the air mode be changed automatically from fresh air to recirculation? and vice versa from recirculation to fresh air?

The recirculation mode is indicative of comparing the inside air temperature with that of outside and cooling or heating effect taking place as needed. The air circulation will take place accordingly.

In re-circulation mode, the fresh air is not taken periodically, only at the beginning, the basic principle of AC is that, initially, it lets the air absorb all the heat in the surroundings, then when the same air enters back to the AC unit, that heat is absorbed and cooler air is sent out.
Now this cooler air again absorbs the heat in the surroundings and again goes back into the AC unit where the heat is again absorbed, this process is repeated until the temperature of incoming air is equal to the set temperature, then, it is just the fan blowing.

ALL cars mix up little bit of fresh air even if recirculation is turn ON.
I don't think there is auto swap between fresh and recirculation automatically as many experts have themselves suggested to change to fresh air mode frequently on highways, thus ruling out auto swap.
I hope I made myself clear enough.

If you are talking of the duct it is independent of the Air conditioning. The baffle is open or shut as per the position selected. The Ac operates until the thermostat is cut off.

Thanks Kiran and Shiva for ur points. But AD clearly understood my query and thanks for your response. AD I believe, some Auto AC cars have this facility of auto swap between fresh air intake and recirculation by sensing the oxygen level in the cabin.

Have you tried out in your i20 in a highway drive? Put auto ac on, let the ACC decide the air intake and drive for atleast 30 to 40 minutes without manually activating the recirculation mode and lets c whether ACC automatically turns on the recirculation mode?

Thanks,
Sathish

Thanks Sathish,
I shall try it next time when i hit the highways, however due to winters this thing may get delay but will surely do some search on it.

Thanks AD, will wait for your response..

Kiran - it would be great if you can provide more info on this..

No, the Climatronic system won't activate the recirculation mode by itself, but the blower will be running at high speed continuously.

When you select recirculation mode, the system will never take in fresh air, since fresh air will b at outside temp, hence, all the efforts made to cool until then will b wasted.

Kiran,
Are you sure?

Try this, switch on the ACC then reduce the temp from the current level to 15 or 16c the lowest, immediately recirculation mode will be activated automatic

Kiran
Yes, because because 15-16 C cannot be obtained just by blowing outside air, u need Air conditioning to take place, the one that I explained earlier.
