I have burned my fingers by buying a TATA vista Aqua petrol car, that too a porcelain white color. The vehicle is good and comfortable but has poor mileage and a TATA vista with white color become a lethal combination for my reputation as it looks a perfect Taxi...its a unbecoming for a university Asst. Professor.I just want to sell it off but the value of the has dropped to to almost below 2 lakhs with a few takers for just 2 and half years old car. I am planning to buy a second hand sedan SUV or a sedan which is cheaper to buy and diesel with good fuel economy....I found few cars with poor resale value but with good fuel economy or class and good creature comfort which I can drive for another 4-5 years. I have options for Hyundai verna 2009-10, Ford fiesta 2008-10, Fiat linea 2008-09, TATA manza top models 2010-11, In SUV.....TATA safari 2.2 vtt 2008-2010. Please suggest and the reason for the suggestion

Hello Babu,
Indeed it is pain to live with Tata Petrol cars, Low Fuel efficiency, constant Niggling and sometimes lack of knowledge by Mechanics too.
I suggest you New car for piece of Mind. If you are looking for used diesel cars, then prefer Verna or Linea. The maintenance requirement would be lesser than Tata's, However you have to make sure the Vehicle condition is Excellent before buying. Prefer those cars that have Full Service Record and Maintenance History.
The Fuel Efficiency would be more or less same with all cars except Safari.
Avoid Safari, It requires lot of attention during ownership. My Friend's car underwent Suspension Overhaul twice within 70K kms with overall expenses of 20K and there are still many.

Carry a well versed Mechanic with yourself before buying or insist a checkup at Service center.

As Diesel cars carry higher resale and those available in market may have clocked more than 50K kms in short span so I strongly suggest you New cars. Grand i10, Figo Tdci may fit your bill.

One thing more. Just do the calculations and see the depreciation hot you are going to take.
Also what's your monthly mileage?
If your Mileage is low say less than 1000kms/month, live with Vista
Just Spruce your it with Upsized Tyres, Alloys wheel, Spolier etc.
By this you'll not carry Taxi image.

Considering overall factors and past experience, the image factor looking for.Fiat Linea would be the best selection.
