Huge risks, for example if there is a fatal accident or car is stolen and used for illegal purposes. Even minor infractions, could cause unnecessary head aches.

All comments are wrong, there is no risk till car is fully insured, make sure that car is insured all time.

Car can be bought from any city and registration can be done at respective RTO of residence city/town provided its in same state. As mentioned in earlier comments, closeness of relation and matters a lot.Best option would be to resister in actual owner's name.

Very politely said Shankar Sir. Only people who want to avoid TAX sleuths do such things. Why else should they do such thing unless it is from the CSD. Best you ask then to buy on your name and after some days give complaint that Car is stolen...lol Worse still any accident and you will be responsible any theft and you have to run around. Why bother Chill say no.

simple solution is to sell the car on paper. person can get the car registered in his name in his own city. Otherwise all liabilities in case of any legal matter will fall upon u being registered owner of the car.
