HI experts, i have a santro, which is 8 yrs old & has clocked 90K. with the festival season ahead i am looking to change it & frankly speaking worried about the sky high petrol prices which may further shot up in coming days increasing running cost. My monthly running is around 500-800 kms. I am confused in diesel vs petrol options. Pls suggest which vehicle i should buy & why?

Pls check whether the lid have a small hole in it which enables little air to come in rather than vaccum in it

First of all you have to make a choice whether you would like to upgrade to Sedan / continue with a new Hatchback.
If your concern is Petrol and running will not exceed 800kms/mth + it is going to be a city ride. They you much check out Chevrolet Beat Diesel 936 cc, a highly fuel efficient car at a very affordable price bracket. Ford Figo 1399cc (0 worry car) is also a good option.
More Cars in Que: i10 Deisel (yet to come), Wagon R Deisel (yet to come).
Would also suggest on bagging a car that is already tested on road. Cars which are yet to come need time prove themselves under given conditions..

The basic thing is whether you want a sedan or you want to continue with a hatchback. If you see the options in diesel cars, then the best option which I feel would be Swift diesel. It is a wonderful car which will give a mileage of 16-18 kmpl in the city.

Nissan Micra is also good but there a dearth of leg space in it.

i10 diesel(yet to come) and i20 diesel are also good options but they would not give you a perfect mileage of 16-18 kmpl.

You can also try Etios Liva diesel but the problem with this car is in the speed breakers,it is a bit difficult to make it through the speed breakers.

since you have already used a santro,u must be obviously looking for a bigger and better car in which case i assume your budget should between 5 to 7 Lakhs a range where a petrol model makes no sense at all because no matter how less your usage is, a diesel model will fetch u 1.5 lakhs more than a petrol variant of the same car in resale value and all u spend additionally maybe 75000 to one lakh, making the diesel option the better investment from day 1 .And if your considered about the additional EMI u have to pay, think about it ur usage is 500-800 km/month or say 30000 to 50000 km in 5 years which amounts to 257000 for a petrol car and 125000 for a diesel car ,u save 132000 and the additional EMI u pay for 1 lakh would be 30000 at the most for five years ,in short u save 1.5 lakhs at the end of five years.

For the kind of usage mentioned, and for upgrading, Hyundai i10 would be a ideal selection.Advantage are the styling, best of mileage and comparative price factor.

Hi I think that you should go for the Etios Liva. It has the most spacious back and front seats you can think of.Or if you want power with good space then you should go with the Volkswagen Polo which also has a very good resale value. And remember if you do not like these cars we all have mentioned then go surely for the Hyundai Eon.
