If we consider same sized petrol and diesel engines, what would be the difference in maintenance cost in a long term scenario.... say a period of 15 years? Moreover, is it wiser to go for a petrol car if the car is sparingly used?

In general Diesel cars have long life than petrol cars, but Diesel cars makes worth if you drive atleast 1500km per month.

If you sparingly use your car or if you drive less than 1500km per month then go for a Petrol car.
