Dear Expert,

I am planning to buy a diesel car either swift dezire or toyota etios or any other in the range of 7-8L which yoy suggest since it would run approx. 1200km monthly. Dezire & Eios are having tubeless tyres. Apart from the advantage that tubeless tyres do not get punctured, what are other advantages and disadvantages of tubeless tyres over inflated tyres and when the tubeless tyres need to be replaced or what is their expected life in terms of running in kilometers. Please suggest.

To select one among the two,Etios would be better option for its newness, performance and cost effectiveness. The average life of tubeless tyres could range at around 30 to 40K KM depending upon usage conditions.

Hi Shiva,

I have heard that the quality of interiors of Etios is inferior than Dezire but the engine performance is better than Dezire. Also heard that it is somewhat noisy though I have not yet tested the Dezire. Please also suggest would it be economical to go for a diesel car if monthly running is approx. 1000km and what other cars you suggest.

Thanks in advance.

Do not limit yourself to Etios and Dzire. There are better options. You are right that Toyota has really reduced the interior quality of Etios to give a lower cost. Tubeless tires are the default nowadays because of its maintanence free nature. The cars that you should take a test drive in are the FIAT Punto and the Ford Figo. Of these two the Punto's engine is the more technically advanced and better powered. Overall ride, handling, dynamics and safety wise the Punto beats all other competitors hands down. For 7lac, you get the emotion version of Punto diesel and for 1000kms per month diesel is good and a comfortable car like Punto is what is needed. Moreover you save some more money because Punto has a service interval of 15K kms. No other Indian car manufacturer has offered that yet. Such is the technology of FIAT!
