Since you travel 600kms a month by car, you need a diesel car for the sake of running cost. Diesel variants may cost up to 100,000 bucks more than petrol variants. But if you are determined to keep the car for at least 4 years, then diesel variants provide good value for money and performance.

Diesel engines provide more mileage and a considerable higher amount of torque (pulling power transferred to driving wheels which matters while climbing inclines) than petrol engines. Torque amount matters if you are buying a front wheel drive car.

Good to buy a diesel car with torque not less than 160Nm.
;)

Indica vista has heavy understeer problem reported may be a problem while cruising over places like Lonavla ghats (source teambhp test drive review). however vista gives all essentials, excellent suspension, mileage, power and many goodies.

It is up to you to decide a good car.. suits your needs. If i recommend Maruti Swift, some say it has crampy interiors (may be better with swift 2011), for Ford Figo, some say very sluggish acceleration on speeds over 100kmph (overtaking should be a planned activity on highways) and average ABS, for Ritz, some may say rear leg room is insufficient and very average brakes and so on.

However these cars has unique advantages in terms of performance and comfort.

;)
cheers.

Hey Suresh, Usage is not the only criteria to buy diesel cars. Like said above, it has got various advantages over petrol. Gud mileage, Masst torque, Behaves well at high speeds, City driving with 'A/C on' is hardly a matter (where in petrol car literally crawls). Go for Diesel. enjoy your drive.
And Vista Quadrajet is a gud vehicle. My colleague owns it & is damn happy with it.

for just 600kms per month it is not advisable to pay 1L extra for diesel. u must opt for petrol

please buy diesel

difference between diesel and petrol is almost Rs. 27 a litre.if you use 60 litre a month. On petrol you will pay atleast 2000 more per month x 12 = 24000 a yr x 4 yrs = 1 lakh. and you can never say that how much more petrol price will increase.

Hi,
For the kind of usage mentioned Petrol version would be enough for advantage of lower investment and mileage. However if planing to use for long term then it will be worth investing on diesel version as it can be both reliable and cost effective, burdon on expenditure for fuel is less.

Good sugestions Ajay,

But I have few quiries on the amintanance of the diesel.

How often one gets the engine maintanance cost?
What is the normal Km range for the engine oil.
What is the ratio of the resale value of the diesel.

future cars will not have resale value, as there is so many new cars coming in india.

initially when tata had launched indica it was bad. then they kept on improving it. i bought indica V2

i have spent rs 2200 for replacing old headlights as it is 5 yrs old and battery for 4500

normal engine oil are not good, they say 5000 but i find that oil gets burnt by 3500. I use one of the best oil called MOBIL 1 5w-50. its very expensive and fully synthetic it will run atleast 12000 kms - guaranteed.
