Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) are fossil derived fuels and therefore release, one way or another, sequestered greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
As vehicle fuels, they are suitable for use in the two dominant internal combustion engine technologies; spark ignition and compression ignition. Although capable of working in either type of engine there are practical factors which limit their applications to one rather than the other. Broadly speaking LPG is compatible with petrol (gasoline) engines and LNG and CNG with heavy diesel vehicles.

CNG, Compressed Natural Gas, is more safe for use in Automobiles. IT is light and goes up the air in case of burst/ accident and hence practically less chances of fire damage. On the other hand LPG when catches fire, it remains low on ground. CNG is more clean fuel and environmental friendly.

There is no such predefined engine CC that can work with CNG/LPG. You can fit CNG/LPG to 800CC or 1100CC or higher CC car. Performance will not be similar to Petrol. The initial pickup will be slower than petrol. Also you will see performance downfall when running with AC on.

LPG performance is better than CNG because its combustion is fast than CNG. Thats why Maruti's DUO car is on LPG not on CNG. Secondly, weight of CNG cylinder is double than the weight of LPG cyclyder. Also the cost of CNG is almost double than LPG.

Another problem with CNG/LPG is of leakage. There will be always some leakage of gas. No matter from where you fit the kit.

If you don't want to compromise with performance and safety than better is to stick with petrol.

Leakage is not any more of an issue with any kind of gas compared to fuel. Do you see vehicles leaking fuel these days? It all depends on the installation.

In terms of performance, gas run engines are a bit different from petrol and diesel engines, but by no means worse. In fact, a petrol engine running on LPG runs smoother and knocks much less even if you are accelerating from lower speed in a higher gear.

Calorific value of fuels are different and they have different burn rates, so the RPM at which you get peak torque will change, but that does not mean the engine will provide you with inferior performance.

Gas engines burn cleaner, and give your engine oil longer life. Soot deposits are much less wiht gas engines.

The Maruti Duo car is fitted with LPG because of two reasons, one being that LPG is more widely available in India, and secondly, it is well suited for the spark ignition cycle.

There are any number of autorickshaws with spark ignition running in Mumbai with CNG kits without any problem.

Emissions are lowered by the use of either CNG or LPG.

Both r safe. In LPG pickup is reduced by 3% & in CNG is is reduced by 7% compared 2 petrol. Both r clean fuel, ecofriendly & pocket friendly. Running cost in LPG is 3-3.25rs./km & in CNG 1-1.5 rs/km depending on vehicle u use. Installation cost in LPG is 18,000-20,000 rs & in CNG is 35,000-40,000. Frankly I have used both vehicles bt I love CNG more than LPG. If u have facility of CNG go 4 CNG.

WE ARE THE AUTHORISED DEALERS IN BOTH CNG/LPG KIT INSTALLATION IN MUMBAI, KANDIVLI(W) & HAVE INSTALLED KITS IN OVER 400 VEHICLES. AS OF NOW DUE TO THE PRICE HIKE IN THE LPG PRODUCTS IN THE RECENT PAST ITS OF NO ADVANTAGE INSTALLING LPG IN YOUR VEHICLE AS THERE IS NOT OF A MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTH OF THE FUELS IE PETROL/LPG. ALSO IT HAS BEEN OBSERVED THAT THE MILEAGE TENDS TO DROP BY MORE THAN 3 KM/LTR.
ON THE OTHER HAND CNG ALTHOUGH IS A BIT COSTLY IN INSTALLATION, IS MUCH MORE ADVISABLE AS YOUR RUNNING COST IS OF MINIMUM & WHAT YOU SAVE IS UPTO 60% OF YOUR PETROL BILLS.
ALSO THERE IS NO SPECIFICATION OF ENGINE CC. YOU CAN INSTALL IT IN ALMOST ANY PETROL VEHICLE IRRESPECTIVE OF THE ENGINE CUBIC CAPACITY
