THERE IS NOTHING ADVANTAGE OR DISADVANTAGE BY VERTCLE /HORIZONTAL TYPE .. IT IS JUST A STYLE OF DESIGN..

Hi,
The mounting of engine depends upon size and type of design adopted by the manufacturer.Advantage of horizonatally mounted engine is that of complete clearance of exhaust gas and hence reduces tendency to knock however the same can not be adopted for higher cc engines.
