Upcoming Maruti Suzuki cars in India
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automobile make knows the market thoroughly. They have always made cars for masses. Delivering mileage and being on the low side of maintenance, Maruti Suzuki cars are the most preferred cars in the country. They have a strong line-up of models ready to take on streets with success for 2014.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will be the one making the company enter upper premium segment which has been ruled by the likes of Honda and Verna. The upcoming Ciaz will take on Honda City and Hyundai Verna primarily with its premium design and equally premium features inside. The Ciaz will also succeed aging SX4 which will be discontinued once the Ciaz gets launched. In terms of design, Maruti Suzuki has worked hard to make it look and feel really upmarket and niche. It will be offered in petrol and diesel along with an automatic transmission. The petrol engine will produce a power of 93bhp and a torque of 130Nm while the diesel will produce 90bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. In addition to manual transmissions for base and mid variants, there is also a speculation of the company introducing an AMT version. We expect Maruti Suzuki to price the Ciaz between Rs.7.5 lakhs to Rs. 10.5 lakhs.
WagonR, which has already proved its worth in the Indian market, is all set to get a more efficient heart. There are plans of launching this hatch is a diesel avatar which promises of great fuel efficiency. Being a light weight engine and creating a displacement of 800cc, WagonR diesel will revolutionise diesel entry hatchbacks with its amazing offering. In terms of diesel, Maruti Suzuki will stick to its classic tall boy design but it is expected that the company might play around with vinyl and graphics to make the WagonR look more appealing. Maruti Suzuki WagonR Diesel might also feature Start/Stop function which cuts off fuel supply once the engine goes in idling. Once it’s launched, it will seek competition from Chevrolet Beat. We expect it to be priced between Rs. 4.5 lakhs to 5.5 lakhs.
The Maruti Suzuki SX4 S Cross concept will help the company enter a totally new segment. It is a crossover based on the SX4 sedan. It was initially showcased in Geneva and then at the 12th Indian Auto Expo in Delhi. The S Cross will be targeted to those who want an adventurous offering along with the daily practicality of a sedan. The front of the S Cross looks similar to the SX4 with rugged bash plates mounted on the lower side of the front bumper. It has larger headlamps which flow all the way to the side profile. The side profile has lot of strong updates in terms of lower bash plates and rugged wheels. The third window differentiates it from a normal sedan. In terms of power train options, the S Cross will be offered in a 1.6 litre diesel and petrol engine which will produce 118bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque and 119bhp of power and 156Nm of torque respectively. We expect Maruti Suzuki to price this one at Rs. 8 lakhs for the base model and go all the way to Rs.14 lakhs for the most premium model.
Leading the entry level hatch with its unique styling, the Alto 800 is all set to start a new trend and bring in Maruti’s smallest diesel engine into play. The Alto 800 which is the most preferred entry level hatch in India will get an additional diesel engine to be the most fuel efficient diesel engine in the country claiming an unbelievable mileage. Suzuki, according to reports, will have a role to play in the development of the 800 cc diesel engine, which will come equipped within the Alto 800. This is likely to be a key factor and is expected to result in a highly efficient and finely tuned engine that might be able to produce an economy of as high as 30 kmpl. Experts feel that the launch of the Alto 800 Diesel is likely to trigger a trend, wherein other firms will make soon mark their presence. The Alto 800 will battle it out with Tata Nano diesel and other diesel offerings in its segment. We expect it to be priced between Rs. 3 lakhs to Rs. 4 lakhs.
It is normally hatchs and sedans, one relates with Maruti Suzuki but then the upcoming XA Alpha is all set to change this image. Compact SUVs which got their recognition in form of Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano will get a new player in the form of XA Alpha. Maruti has shown the concept in the Auto Expo previous to the last one in India which got many expecting it soon. Since the Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha is currently at the development stage, there are no clarifications regarding its configurations. In terms of engine, it is speculated that the model will have a K-series engine that will power the petrol variants, whereas a 1.3 L DDiS unit will be used to run the diesel variants. The power and torque generation capacities of the motors assimilated in the car are unknown at present. To make things make exciting, Maruti Suzuki will offer XA Alpha in 2WD and 4WD options with a shift on fly option for the latter. It is obvious that the 4WD will be offered as a premium option. We expect Maruti Suzuki to price the XA Alpha around Rs.10 Lakhs.
With an intention to spice up its entry level portfolio, Maruti Suzuki will launch cars like the Cervo. The Cervo will be the most anticipated hatch from the company as it would have a smaller engine than the Alto 800. It is a challenge indeed to have an engine smaller than the Alto 800 and at the same time price it cheaper than the 800 without disturbing the sales of the latter. The Cervo holds a 0.7 litre petrol engine, which is incorporated with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology that assists the engine to deliver low emissions with a decent fuel economy. Although the engine emission of Maruti Suzuki Cervo is low, it does not compromise on the grounds of fuel economy. The power-train of Cervo enables the car to deliver an impressive mileage of 22 kmpl in city and 26 kmpl on highway. It has a wheelbase of over 2,000 mm, which will provide good stability to the car. The company anticipates that Cervo will attract the youngsters as it is provided with sporty and appealing exteriors and interiors. The eye designed headlights offered in the Cervo are quite stylish. In order to make the front fascia attractive, the car holds a honeycomb radiator grille, finished with chrome strip. We expect Maruti Suzuki to price the Cervo at Rs.1.5 lakhs to Rs.2 lakhs.
If you were a fan of their cult SUV Gypsy, Maruti Suzuki has something to offer for consumers like you with the Jimny. The Jimny will be the only entry level SUV to be sold in the market. It is not sure for now but then sources believe that the Jimny will be priced well below the Duster and will have the first mover advantage over other manufacturers. The Maruti Jimny model will be rolled-out in the Indian market with a 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder, multi-jet diesel engine that is capable of producing a peak power of 85 bhp at 3750 rpm along with a peak torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. It will be an entry level SUV but that does not mean Maruti Suzuki will strip off safety aspects from it. Even though not confirmed, the Jimny will be offered with ABS, EBD and other host of safety features. The Jimny will be a very strategic offering by India’s largest car maker. We expect the Jimny to take on its strong rivals like the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. Force Gurkha will not be a true competition as they are too laid back while Mahindra is very aggressive about their Thar line-up. It will need an amazing potential for the Jimny to take on the Thar. We expect the Maruti Suzuki Jimny to be priced at Rs.7 Lakhs and little above it.
The MR Wagon and Palette too will join the portfolio of Maruti Suzuki in India in the not so soon future. These cars have established their position in Japanese markets and are being sold as Kei cars which means small but then the same will not guarantee success in Indian markets owning to their smaller displacement engines and comparatively higher prices. Maruti Suzuki Palette seems quite unique due to its huge body. This vehicle stands 3395 mm long, 1475 mm wide and 1735 mm tall, quite big for a car with a sub-800 cc engine. While the upcoming MR Wagon is expected to be powered by a 660 cc Suzuki engine that is well known in Japan, though it remains unknown in the subcontinent. This 3 cylinder engine produces peak power of 54 bhp at 6500 rpm and maximum torque of 63 Nm at 4000 rpm. However, the car may also be available with a turbocharged engine that offers increased power of 64 bhp. We expect Maruti Suzuki to price both the cars between Rs.4 lakhs to Rs.5 lakhs
