Someone called it, “The Lord of Streets.” The statement is true to the core! We rode it and found the true meaning of the phrase - the experience was totally “WOW!” We heard that Yamaha intends to get back its top position in the two-wheeler market in India. Well, if Yamaha launches models like the new FZ 16, it is right on track to make it to the number one.
The new Yamaha FZ 16 impressed us with its masculine and chauvinist style that aptly sports a “street” look in the Yamaha kitty against the ‘sports’ tag of FZ 15. We recommend you to take a look at the pictures or visit a showroom at least once so you can see for yourself this latest model. The new Yamaha delivered a very good experience of biking during the test drive. It seems a mean, mad and muscular model that is ready to leave the Indian customer totally awed!

The Power…
The bike is powered with air-cooled, 4-stroke SOHC engine and the center of the gravity of this bike is low which gives a nice balance to the rider on treacherous turns. It has impressive pick up speed when it gives a top speed of 140kmph with an electric starter that kicks the single-cylinder, four-stroke, two-valve 150cc engine into full power.
This bike is meant for life on the streets and always lets you be in charge. It gets its looks from the global FZ series as the Yamaha YZF R15 is a sports bike and is one of the best naked bikes in its segment. The new model is called the FZ 16 and with that, Yamaha has given ‘naked street bike’ a whole new definition. It possesses the state of art YTPS (Yamaha Throttle Position Sensor), for better throttle response and fuel efficiency. It also comes loaded with a fully digital console with digital readout for RPM, Speed, Trip and Odometer.

The 5-speed gearbox, 5-spoke 17 die-cast alloy wheels all lend macho and muscular attributes to the bike. The engine is not liquid cooled but is actually an air-cooled unit capable of putting 13.8bhp on road via the fattest rear tyres seen on Indian roads so far! The engine breathes through two valves and has a maximum torque rating of 14Nm@6000rpm. It is one of the few bikes in India that has to do without a kick-starter.
The Monocross rear suspension is a real boon which offers smooth ride on the Indian roads with their crater-sized pits! It sports a disc-drum combination with a 267mm diameter disc at the front that is operated with twin-pot caliper. The front suspension is 41 mm thick; besides good absorption of shocks from the road, this suspension also provides good damping characteristics during acceleration and braking. Yamaha has made sure to take care of every small detail in the bike which makes it the most competitive entrant in its segment.

The Style Statement…
If looks could kill, the new Yamaha FZ 16 could do a lot of damage! It derives its features from its predecessors in the FZ series. The new model also boasts of host of features that makes the bike special and one of the most stunning and mind-blowing bikes in India. The diamond shape frame lends it impressive looks and makes passers-by stand and look. If you are looking for bike with brutal looks and rough expressions, Yamaha FZ 16 is the bike to go for!
The bike also named as “The Boss of the Streets” and it showcases the latest technology features which make it a macho machine in the 150 cc segment. It is an urban-cool bike motorcycle built for great performance and easy-living functionality.
If you were left awed by its wide tyres, take a look at its huge tank of capacity of 13 litres and beefy forks. The bike weighs around 124 kgs and carries bold and heavy looks. It is available in bold colours like Flaming Orange, Midnight Black and Lava Red. The model is priced at Rs. 65,000 in India (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
The new Yamaha FZ 16 left us truly dazed with its looks, power and style. It is one of the most rocking bikes in its segment and Yamaha has made sure that Indian buyers think more beyond Hunk, Apache, Pulsar, CBZ-X and the likes!

Well,,dont know whether I should comment in this forum or not..as honestly its sounding like some class 6-7 year boys commenting on the new toy cells phones that their dads have given them which they are thrilled to have ..giving them the experience of the phones that their dads carry..!! afterall the truth is a truth..
"The Difference between a MAN and a BOY is the Price of their TOYs"...
Well..A Bike is REAL bike when its got atleast a 1000cc engine..has atleast 160+bhp and a torque of 100NM+....
lets talk about some REAL bikes..and not toys!
( Hope I didnt offend anyone..as much as FZ16 is a good bike...its still a COMPROMISE)12 January 2009 By StreetBiker

As mentioned in this review that the engine is a four-valve engine, this is incorrect. The FZ16 engine is a 2 valve engine.
-Sorry, typo, we had described it as two valve later on- Rishi24 December 2008 By Saurabh

Its tiny for a 6footer guy like me.
Its looks awesome. I sat on the bike but didnt ride it.. my knees came over the tank and I over heard onlooker say its a small bike. I wish this was bigger much like the fazer 250. Even after 3 yrs sine my Karizma.. i do not have a good option to look for. I wish Yamaha comes up with a bike that matches dimensions of karizma or their real Fazer series23 December 2008 By Anup Nair

The face of the bike takes you the decade old Libero. Could have done better. Again the tank mold is of which the as problematic pulsar's shape which injures at speed riding condition when brakes are applied... Not really fetching as expected from YAM!!!!!!!!!!

I am not too sure about the height of the bike. Apache was one bike i really wanted to get. the height let me down then and same here
i don't think a large frame person like me would really fit comfortably on this one.23 December 2008 By Abhishek Mishra
