2012 Tata Nano Review: The Refreshed Cute Car

Launched in 2009, The Tata Nano has seen several highs and lows in the Indian automobile scene. There were some unpleasant experiences faced in different parts of the country and there were some proud accolades that this cute car won.

An upgrade of the Tata Nano has been expected from long - in fact, many had anticipated the launch of a diesel Tata Nano under the upgrade announcement.

All these guesses were put to rest when Tata Motors finally launched the 2012 Tata Nano. The 2012 Nano avatar claims to have been developed after taking tons of feedback from present consumers.

All in all, the new 2012 Tata Nano is not a total revamp from its predecessor but has been tweaked to enhance its drivability.

We review the 2012 Tata Nano CX variant and find out the difference.

  • I recently bought the new Tata Nano LX Champagne Gold. Initially I was looking for some other small cars like the Maruti Alto, Tata Vista, Hundai Dlite/i10, etc. Somehow, I cam across this car which was parked in the showroom and when I sat in it, I was really suprised to find that the space inside the car is much much more than any other hatchpack. The seats have been really placed to favor the driver as well as the passengers. I have already taken it to long drives and have never felt tired driving as I used to in my Alto. I love my car for it's comfort, it's performance, it's A/C, it's mileage. Amazingly Tata Motors has kept in mind the important aspects that a person wants from a car and not compromised on it while designing it with such optimal price. Hats off to you Mr. Ratan Tata.

  • What so special about the 2012 edition just powdering the nose. What has been done about the cars catching fire. Has the cheap looking grill at the rear been replaced. Even now does the driver have to get down to refuel the vehicle. Has thee paint quality been improved. Any change in the basic styling to make it look like a car???

  • I use an alto since 7 years and want to comment on Nano.

In small cars (hatch backs) I found Nano is one among the best. One of my friends got a Nano (top end) which is of more than a year now. When he decided to buy that and asked an opinion, I never favored it. but after a year's time myself and my family became a fan of Nano.

    Here are the reasons.
While travelling I always use the front seats to sit and obviously in my alto, I will be the driver. There was an instance I used the rear seat in my alto, which was really a pain for me. But when we both friends go tio anyplace together, no doubt we choose the Nano. As soon as we enter the car, the airy and roomy cabin gives as pleasing feeling and for myself it seems to be an escape from the cramped sitting from my alto(about the count of people travel in Nano is 7. Myself, wife and 2 kids of 4 and 1 years of age each, friend: himself, wife and the kid of 3 yrs age, apart from kids, we are not lean me and my friend are little fat). If the same "7" are seated in my alto, it is tight packed and no longer to move inside. I prefer sitting in the rear seat of nanon too which a pleasant ride that my alto.

The best out of my observations are here about Nano as a passenger:
1)High and straight sitting - Angle of seats are good to sit, gives more back support
2)Flat seats (not curvy as my alto) which permits 3 to sit in rear easily, by not hurting the hip.
    3)Easy entry and exit.
    4)Visibility in both rows.
    5)Added head room.
6)Leg space for the rear seats (High front seats allow the feet go below the front row)

In addition I wish to compare the rear leg room and seating with another car of a different class: "Force One". The rear seat – third row of the Force one is directly comparable to the rear seat of Nano. (The angle, leg room and seat height. Only difference is the 3rd row of Force One can be tilted and while tilted the head bumps with the roof molding). I never wanted to compare the riding of both cars; strictly limited to the seating comfort only.

  • To what extent is the new suspension better than the one on the previous gen Nano?

    26 December 2011 By  Reeto
  • u have mentioned maruti 800 tank capacity as 19, pls clarify,its wrong,it is 28.
    pls don't post wrong information.

    26 December 2011 By  Julians
  • @Nitin Yes, We took it on hilly regions as well. The increased torque has reduced the hassles of shifting to lower gears again and again also the ride quality is better in the 2012 version.

26 December 2011 By  Aditya Chatterjee
  • Of course it is good suggestion. Tata will think in this subject.

  • can you tell more about your experience, do u ever took it to some hilly area

  • What ever said and done the bugs will continue to to creep up due to poor or substandard quality and be a constant headache for the owner.have been experiencing a lot of problems since the first day of ownership. All this adds up to the poor Tata after sale service experienced in any part of the country.
