Please fill your name and email ID to get our daily auto news mailer.Tata Motors has recently launched its new car Indica Vista as the next generation car in the Indica Series. The aim is to put a stop to declining Indica sales in India. Indica has been one of the most successful passenger cars for Tata Motors so far and had always marked positive growth sales in past 10 years. The new model has been worked from scratch and Indica has been reworked after 10 years. It shall compete with other hatchback models in the country like Swift, Fabia, Getz and Fod Fusion.

The new Indica Vista is available in three main variants, Aqua, Terra and Aura, with each variant having different engines – TDI, Safire and Quadrajet. The 1.2 litre Safire and 1.3 Litre Quadrajet (diesel) shall be sourced from Fiat and have already won several awards around the globe. The 1.4 Litre TDI engine is currently available in present Indica model. The 1.2 litre engine gives a peak power of 65PS and maximum torque 96 nm. The indica Vista 1.3 Litre engine gives maximum power of 75PS and maximum torque of 190NM at 1750rpm. All engines of Indica Vista have 5-speed transmission.

Tata Motors gives a lot of choices to their customers this time to choose their own car. It is available in rocking seven colours to choose from – Cavern Grey, Infinity Black, Noble Blue, Arctic Silver, Solar Orange, Marine Silver and Gala Red. You can also choose from two variants of wheel caps that suit your taste. The fuel tank is 37 litres which is enough for even the long drives. It has a comfortable seating capacity for five people. The tyre size is 175/65 R14 with independent McPherson Strut suspension with semi-independent coil.

Interiors are plush and done in two-tone with superior fabric used for seats. It has all the usual features of Indica with power windows in front doors and rear windscreen demister. Interiors are also spacious with length as 3795 mm, width – 1695 mm, height -1550 mm and wheelbase of 2470mm. It has a 2-DIN music system with a USB port to support external devices like your iPOD.

Aura is the top end model which is available with all three types of engines and Terra is the low end variant where you will not find the Quadrajet Diesel option to choose from. However, all the car models seriously lack proper safety features including the high end Aura model. Simple features like Airbags and ABS is also missing from the top models of Indica Vista.
The car truly belongs to the B+ car segment falling in the price range of Rs. 3.5 lakh to 5 lakh fulfilling the basic needs of the segment it caters to. It can reach the top speed of 155 kmph and is quoted to give an average of 13 kmpl on highways and 10 kmpl in the city.

I second Shankar's comment here. I am new to this site and was expecting a review of the vehicle specially since this article is posted under the review section which gives me details on handling, performance, quality, FE etc. But the article is more on the specs that the car comes with which is anyway easily available in a brochure !

I saw one vista last week. is was just rolled out of the showroom. even after being in car manufacturing for more than a decade tatas have not learned how to make the car with good fit and finish. its very disappointing that they are using very cheap quality plastic for door and window trims. the same goes for the trims in the windshield. hope the upcoming batches will not have such probs.

Information given is only description. Tata's should change the looks (shape)of Indica and work on Fuel Economy (of petrol varients). At least they should learn from Maruti Suzuki how to modify their ECU of Indica, which goes off with LPG fitment in all existing Petrol Models. However, the price is quite reasonable compared to features offered. Indica is a proven benchmark for low maintenance and rough & tough use. Especially their Diesel varients are rocking. As said by others Tatas cant expect much response for Indica Vista unless they work on things mentioned above. Experts comments expected.

Its time for Tata motors to change complete body shape of Indica .Its quite a long time using the same body. Offcource with minor modifications.

The future of this car in not very encourgaing Simple features like Air Bags and ABS should be one of the demaning and first requistie of the proposed customer while planning to buy a car for his / her family, secondly the look the tata has made for Indica Vista nothing very much appealing, looks like taxi/cab, one must have not fortgotten that what happened to Ambassdaor car, the bajaj scooter monopoly, people wants change in style and look and combintion of the latest technology up grades. Now making a comparision as compared to per litre average/ look / safety measures matter a lot.
So not very encouraging car.14 September 2008 By HARSH SAXENA CAR WALAH

Worked from scratch? But has the same engine configurations as the older donkey Indicas? The engines from Fiat are great, but the car is a donkey. Lifeless. Quite comfortable though!
