2011 Nissan Sunny Review : In the Nissan Sunny under the SUN
We were invited by Nissan for their “NISSAN SUNDRIVE” in Chennai. The location chosen for this event was Radisson Blu, Mahabalipuram. The reason for this event was that Nissan wanted to give us a dekho and samjho of their all new mid size sedan, the 2011 Nissan Sunny.
Personally, I am not a big fan of how Nissan cars look in India. The X-trail, the Teana or the retro styled Micra hatch never get my attention. Specially, the Micra hatch with those weirdly designed big headlights clubbed with the weird rear which some think is cute. Now when we got the invites for driving a sedan based on Micra`s platform, one can understand my excitement. I mean a sedan based on a hatch??
We all know how different Swift DZire looks from Swift, Volkswagen Vento looks from Polo or the recent Toyota Etios looks from Liva. So I had developed a pre conceived feel on the look and the design of Nissan Sunny. I was just praying not to get an orange colored (the one Micra has) Sunny to drive.
Finally, the shiny brick red Nissan Sunny was there for us to have a look and feel of what we would be driving the next day. My first reaction?, Hey, that doesn`t look like the Micra from any angle. It didn’t look as if a boot was slapped to a rear of a hatch, it looked a different car. The bold lines and the long wheelbase made a strong impression. This is the tenth generation Nissan Sunny which was first launched in 1966 and the name “Sunny” was chosen in a competition held by Nissan long back.
It was launched in India on 3rd August 2011 in Mumbai. Nissan had got its top rank officials for the SUNDRIVE event. Mr.Kazuhiro Doi (Chief Product Specialist V-Platform) was among them. You know the specialty of such type of events…? .It’s the liberty we auto guys get to throw our questions to the normally-not-so-easily accessible guys and we too maintained the tradition.
We asked Kazuhiro Doi whether he is skeptical about the launch of a petrol sedan in the current high priced petrol scenario and also the very much in trend diesel options. He commented that Nissan is very positive about Sunny. Its fuel economy and spacious interiors can compete against its diesel rivals. Although, he had hinted of a diesel launch soon which has now come as an official statement too from Nissan guys, who have preponed their Nissan Sunny diesel plans. So does the Nissan Sunny have it all to rival its German, American and Japanese counterparts?

that's sort of true however the qutilay of materials are better in the Infiniti, the Infiniti will turn more heads, and you'll get a loaner car at the Infiniti dealership whereas if you buy the Maxima you'll end up stuck in the dealership next to a 17 year old kid picking his nose who bought a Nissan Cube.

Hi,
I gave my 2 months old nissan sunnny, 10 days back in EVM Nissan, Kochi for replacing the front bumper. They are giving lame excuses lie they don't have stock of bumper, the blower in painting booth is not working etc and keep on delaying the delivery of vehicle. They had today requested 1 more week time for returning my car.
I dont understand why Nissan wants to give dealership to companies like EVM who do not have the financial capacity to hold stock of basic spares like front bumper, mud flap, brakes light bulb etc(the above are not available with them when i asked for). This will definitely spoil the brand image of Nissan in Kerala, as its taking 20 days for replacing a bumper of my car. Can u guide me how should i commute during this period? I feel pitty that i went nissan instead of many leading brands. The same happened to skoda when they give dealership to Marikar, who helped to spoil the brand image skoda had by providing the worst service backup.
Hoping the worst for Nissan owners in kochi.05 June 2012 By Gladiator

I bought a Nissan Sunny XV and the engine shut down twice which creeps me out every time. I've had issues with the push start ignition which the service station is unable to identify. The dealer Ichibaan Nissan is pathetic not only cuz of the problems I faced while buying the car but also for its after sales service. The company is now making me run from one place to another to get this problem sorted. I still haven't received the accessories I paid for a month ago and they don't have spare parts either. I don't know how long will my car last. Hope the service guys are able to identify why the engine shuts down cuz they have admitted that there are 2 other people with the same problem and that they have escalated the same. Overall, its been less than a month? and Nissan Sunny is absolutely pathetic!! I just want people to know about this so that they also don't get duped like me!

I got a blue oloured Sunny top XV model for 8.68 Lakhs about a month ago . I would say that this car is low on power and response at low speed .Theonly goo dpoint is extra space in the rear part of car . I was surprised to find that my old Accent which I run on CNG feels more powerful to drive than this new sedan . So go for it i you are not veru keen on a powerful car . I bought it because I used NISSSAN BLUEBIRD when I was abroad . Company should have thought about Indian mind .

I had a test drive of the Nissan Sunny. At the initial take off stage it is a bit sluggish, but once you reach cruising speed it is okay. The rear looks better than the front side. Side profile has good looks. The gear shift is not smooth and soft. The base version of Sunny when compared with competition for eg Verna Fluidic is no match. At almost similar price, the Verna is loaded with more features. Sunny could have gone for better designed ac vents too, instead of having similar ones as Micra. Better to wait and see how the Sunny Diesel feels like.

Quite a pathetic review. I don't agree with most of what is written.
The Micra is a decent looking car and accolades to Nissan, who like Audi, try to provide something apart from the mundane. The Sunny does not look that bad either. You probably just have bad taste.
And you need to get you facts right, 99bhp and 1000 kgs weight means nearly 100 bhp/ton, which are excellent figures. Do some research before making silly comments.
And you didn't like the driver's seat? and you are a journalist, which means you just don't have a passion for cars, maybe you just like the pay and the 5 star hotels. I would prefer the driver's seat even if they put a park bench in there.
Ignorant and Ill-informed.
@DER : The Sunny is sold as the Versa in the USA. The Altima is different. I don't know much about the middle east but I'm sure the Sunny and Altima are different products.30 September 2011 By Rahul

Bad review. Either Mr. Chatterjee is ignorant or he is biased. I think ignorant. Interiors and exteriors alone are not enough to form an opinion.
By the way.. are Sunny in India and Altima in middle east same? (like verna here is accent in middle east)

Unbiased review, highlights the bottom line that Nissan have got it right with a spacious family sedan for the sedate family man at a very good price point. Hope Nissan gains some mileage in India with their launch and makes hay while the "Sunny" shines!

An invitation by the launching company, possibly staying in five star rated hotels futher enjoying star rated hospitality, I wonder the report is true from heart. I myself never a fan of the Nissan as they lack tempting disign cues in any of their cars except one the Nissan Maxima, of course not available in India. Cheers

Excellent comments Mr.Venkateshwaran.I still wonder, why these guys forget Fiat cars in their comparisons. In this petrol sedan segment, one of the leading contenders are the Linea T-jet.The same is in the case of diesel cars(both hatch & sedan). These guys always highlight Swifts ,Ritz & SX4,who sells 80% of their cars in diesel segment, the HEART(engine)made by Fiat. They always discard the original one..........the solid built Fiat cars.I believe Fiat should change their strategy.......they need to think in the Indian way(to deal with these guys).

A rather bland write up, after seeing a Brick Red car and re-writing what is on the specification sheet you have sadly posted stock photos available. No mention of the Ride and feel of the car and the way it handles. No real feed back about any drawback a very diplomatic write up that really means nothing. The Micra is definitely a good car with a good appeal which is selling in good numbers and what are we doing evaluating the Sunny or criticizing the Micra or simply letting down Nissan. Micra has good looks and the style is any day superior to the jelly bean style of the Zen. One look at the Micra at night with the head lights on is enough to make you fall in love with the car all over again. Like it or leave it Mr A.Charrerjee. Inorder to write good reviews you need at least two things one the passion for the job and two the full knowledge of the job on hand. Delete this post and prove me right.
