Please fill your name and email ID to get our daily auto news mailer. The long awaited SUV model from Mahindra is ready to be launched in the month of December 2008. The car was developed under the codename Ingenio and is finally being launched as Mahindra Xylo. Mahindra’s Nashik facility will build Xylo in next two months and the new multi-utility vehicle will be available in India and the overseas market simultaneously. The company hopes to produce nearly 25000 units of Xylo in the country to cater to domestic and overseas demands. It has been tipped as one of the most ambitious projects from Mahindra and Mahindra after launching its most successful and the most popular model, Mahindra Scorpio.

The new Xylo will be available in multiple variants with the initial model being launched as a diesel version. It will have 2.6 litre CRDi diesel engine and 2.2 mHawk engine. It will be followed by a petrol variant and an automatic transmission variant later on. The micro-site launched by the company gives finer details of the car and sneak peek on the next big MUV to hit the Indian roads in December. The company has tested the car rigorously from the day 1 of the launch. It has driven the model for nearly 1 million kms in India and abroad on various terrains. The company claims that it has driven the model on unimaginable terrains of Germany and the UK in a span of 700 days. This means we can expect car with quality of Toyota Innova.

The new Mahindra Xylo has been developed indigenously by company’s research and development team after it developed its successful model Scorpio. The 160-member team has specifically focused on styling, technology and performance with a customer-centric thought in mind. There are various features added for comfort and convenience like AC but it comes without climate control. Other features include power windows, remote central locking, remote boot, remote fuel filler, rear wiper, rear defogger, rear armrests with cup-holders. The driver seat adjustments are manual and the door mirror is present on the driver side with manual adjustments. It comes with an MP3 CD player as well. The model may lack active and passive safety features but the actual list of features will be available once the model actually hits the showrooms.
The new model will be launched in the C+ segment and will give a direct competition to Toyota Innova and Tata Sumo Grande. It may also have to battle it out against Tata’s Indicruz Crossover slated for a launch next year. There is a competition running on the car’s microsite where you can even win a Xylo if you are able to guess the correct price of the model. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 6-8 lakh.

As a family car, lot of passion does gets attached to xylo. My life and my family's life has completely changed thanks to xylo. I would like to thank xylo for making my life so convinient and so exciting. xylo is perfect family car. I am a timid driver, yet I find Xylo handling and steering very good in control. suspension is also such that you don't feel any kind of bumping in the car.

Nice to hear from Mahindra, I was planing to buy Scorpio in coming year, but after hearing this I will wait for the lunch of Xylo.
But, Mahindra should take in notice that the car must be loaded with full safety features. and about the price the basic model will cost between 6 to 6.5 lakh and the fully loaded Xylo will cost between 7.5 to 8 lakh in competition with Toyota Innova fully loaded this price will be very compitative.
Thanks and I wish all the best for the launching of new Xylo.10 December 2008 By Vijay Shankar
