Recently Mahindra2Wheelers launched its new two-wheeler, Rodeo. I visited the showroom to check out the scooter for my cousin. The Rodeo has two brothers, namely the Duro and the Flyte.

The Mahindra2Wheelers products seem to be doing well - I was welcomed by a busy executive, while he was handing over an invoice to a customer. Also, another executive was who was looking happy and distributing sweets for a sale happened earlier in the day.

I asked for the Rodeo Scooter and asked for a test ride. I took out the bike and went for a small test ride in a double road which was quite free and could accelerate much. I drove the scooter for a few KMs and returned.

Here are some of the observations about Rodeo.

The specifications of Rodeo include a 125cc engine, delivering maximum of 8 BHP power and 9 NM. The Rodeo is gearless and has a 4.5 liters fuel tank capacity. It further has a storage capacity of 22 liters which is quite large in its segment.

Some of the key features in the Rodeo are the digital display, which includes a tachometer, trip-meter, acceleration indicator, fuel gauge and a clock. Much attention has been given for safety and convenience. The scooter’s anti theft key also acts as key for the central console. The ergonomically designed seats are very comfortable for both riders.

The external body style is designed well with streamlined body works with graphics. The choice of colours include Brown, Grey, Green, Black, Blue, and Red.

Test ride

The main impression of the Rodeo is made by the digital display which looks very modern, and the look is even better during night. The acceleration is very smooth and it can reach up to 80 KMPH.

Being a regular user of two-wheelers, I noted some other key points such as the the fuel tank capacity of 4 in the Rodeo, up to 6 liters maximum in the Duro. The fuel tank capacity is very low which means a visit to the petrol bunk at least once in three days. Also, the top speed of 80KMPH is quite low for the engine capacity.

Comparision with other makes

The main competitors for Rodeo, Duro, Flyte are the Honda Activa, Scooty Pep+, Hero Honda Pleasure. Though the Pleasure, Activa, and Scooty Pep are 100 cc scooters, the Rodeo is in the same price range and has a higher capacity, 125cc engine.

The onroad price of the Rodeo in Bangalore is Rs. 46,842, while the Duro comes at Rs. 43,533, and the Flyte at Rs. 44,300.

Conclusions

The new Rodeo makes a good selection as a convenient, comfortable, easy to handle, stylish scooter for in city usage. However, the performance in terms of acceleration and top speed of the Rodeo are lacking.

If you are looking for higher power, top speed etc., it would be better to look for a bike.

  • Mahindra Two Wheeler service is Pathetic. THEY JUST KNOW HOW TO SELL ON FALSE PROMISES WITH NO SERVICE AT ALL. BEWARE OF MAHINDRA, DO NOT BUY THEM

I have a mahindra duro since jan last year. Each and every time I go to service my vehicle, the same problem of faulty fuel meter, left mirror etc. exists. They tell they rectified it but it is just to misguide me. My scooter is not working as there is some problem with the battery which again they corrected once, I have complained to customer care four times. Reference number is - K1010004. I have spoken to Vikas Patil there @ 02025283775 and Nagpur service manager Ravi Joshi almost thrice, but no action.

NOW, I WANT TO RETURN MY VEHICLE. WE ARE NOT USING IT FROM PAST ONE MONTH AS IT IS NOT WORKING AND WANT THE REFUND. PLEASE TAKE THIS UP ON URGENT BASIS.

  • Purchased the Mahindra RODEO on three month before, from Mahalingam and co, Coimbatore. indicates as if there is no petrol and some time automatically it indicates as if the petrol is full, and the millage is not at all giving, I had given my vehicle to Mahalingam and co, for 4 to 5 time but still they could not resolve the issue. Presently I am getting 33 to 35 KMPL, which is really irritating me, they (SALES TEAM (BALU) ) recommend 50 to 55km and when I asked the service incharge at Mahalingam and co, so they are not in a position to solve the issue. I had also sent an email to enquiry@mahindra2wheelers.com, but there is no responce.

  • I have a typical problem with rodeo. While accelerating much friction is felt and it seems that it is struggling to pick up to 40 kmph speed, though after 40kmph it becomes smooth. Problem worsens with Pillion. Reported this to dealer/service center several times they says that it is normal and there is no problem at all. Now we have reported this issue to some senior officers at Mahindra. Hope to find some solutions for this.
    Problem is that service center

  • RODEO STRIKES ROAD HUMPS EVEN AT LOW SPEED. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS . THE VEHICLE STRIKED 5 TIMES FOR A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 14 KMS (FROM MY RESIDENCE TO RODEO SHOWROOM BANGALORE). I BROUGHT THIS TO NOTICE OF THE DEALER AND THE COMPANY. THE DEALER MECHANIC/ENGINEER HAS DONE SOME ADJUSTMENTS . NOW THE VEHICLE GROUND CLEARANCE IS INCREASED BY ABOUT ONE INCH . BUT IT STRIKED AGAIN ONCE THOUGH NOT 5 TIMES. IT SHOWS THAT PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS AND COMPLETELY NOT CURED. DONT BUY RODEO BETTER PURCHASE ACTIVA OR ACCESS OR ANY OTHER VEHICLE OF YOUR CHOICE. MAHINDRA DONT KNOW PROBLEMS OF TWO WHEELERS.

  • sir, i also purchased this scooter. but to my surprise chasis strikes road humps whenever vehicle passes on road humps in bangalore. so far for more than 15 times it has striked on road against road humps. it means chassis touches/strikes against road humps while riding. i have complained to the dealer and company also. no favourable response from them so far. so i dont recommend this vehicle to anybody you also dont recommend
