I myself have not driven Alto and Zen. I owned a used Santro 99 model and sold it last month. Car is good for family use with smooth use. Though I feel maintenance cost will be lower for Alto and Zen (around 2-3k per year less than Santro). But I fell Santro is better because of the space it offers and other two score very less on space.

Santro Pros:
- more space
- better engine (than Alto)
Santro Cons:
- Though it does not require much maintenance, General servicing and maintenance charges are higher for Hyundai than Maruti. Expect around 9k per year minimum in general.

Alto:
- Better fuel efficiency
- Low maintenance
Cons:
- Less powerful engine
- Less space

Old Zen Pros:
- Good looks
- Low maintenance
Old Zen Cons:
- Phased out model
- Less space

I won't mind paying more maintenance for Santro for space and convenience it offers.

Also Santro might be costlier than the other two but i think you recover the price when selling it.
