Volkswagen India, a unit of the Germany based auto giant Volkswagen AG, announced on Wednesday that it has registered a marginal sales surge of 3.36 per cent during the month of January 2012. The sales figures of the company stood at 5,789 units during this month as compared to 5,601 units sold in the same month last year.
Both mass segment cars of the company including compact hatchback Polo and mid-size sedan Vento remained a major contributor in the company’s total sales, with clocking over 90 percent sales of the Volkswagen India during this month. In total, the sales of these two flagship models of the company stood at 5,402 units during this month. About 387 units were accounted by the company’s luxury sedans 'Jetta' and 'Passat'.
While commenting on the company’s performance during the month, Volkswagen India Member of Board and Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Neeraj Garg said, "The first month has shown a decent performance, with sales even growing slightly as compared to the same period last year. We take this as a very positive sign and are confident to Go forward during the year with growth in sales numbers."
