Tata Prima Diesel, Petrol

Tata Prima is an upcoming premium range car of Tata Motors that is expected to be rolled out in the country by the third quarter of year 2011. Tata Motors had showcased a concept version of this luxury sedan at the 79th Geneva Motor Show in year 2009, where it attracted a large number of auto enthusiasts and buyers. The Prima was also displayed at the Delhi Auto Expo in January this year, without disclosing pricing and specification details.

Developed with global ambitions, the new Tata Prima is expected to be launched in the European markets initially, followed by its launch in the Indian market. The new Tata sedan is based on the company’s popular Tata Indigo model and has been designed by famous Italian car design company Pininfarina that has designed some of world most popular cars like Ferrari Mythos. It is also speculated that Tata Prima may be engineered and developed at the R&D center of Jaguar Cars (British subsidiary of Tata Motors).

Initially, the Prima is expected to be launched in both petrol and diesel versions, carrying 1.6L and 1.8L engines, respectively. Tata Prima is expected to be shelved in the price bracket of Rs 12 lakh to 14 lakh, where it will be competing with the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze and Mitsubishi Lancer.

Engine & Specification of Tata Prima

As mentioned above, the company hasn’t disclosed any specification details for this car in the Indian market, so far. However, the car is expected to be launched in both 1.6L petrol and 1.8L diesel versions with possible maximum power delivering capabilities of 100bhp and 120bhp, respectively. The car is expected to boast a five-speed manual transmission in both diesel and petrol versions.

As looks like from its concept version, Tata Prima is believed to be carrying a large wheel base of 2700mm, which ensures a considerably space inside the car. The exterior dimensions of the car are yet to be revealed in the Indian market.

Performance of Tata Prima

The Prima sedan will be carrying next generation performance characteristics including a highly refined engine and segment leading acceleration & pick-up. The car will boast an advance transmission technology along with a range of performance enhancing features. Prima will come compatible with high performance, safety and emission standards of European markets. However, as the car is still in the development stage, it is not feasible to say anything exactly on the performance aspect of the car.

Exterior, Interior & Safety of Tata Prima

As mentioned above, Prima model has been designed at Italian car designing company Pininfarina. It carries a coupe-like exterior design with bold-looking sexy curves all over the body and a uniquely styled headlight cluster. The interior of the car is expected to come blessed with a range of advanced infotainment, comfort & convenience and safety features. A large wheel-base of 2700mm ensures massive space inside. The safety features that are expected to find place in the car include ABS with EBD, multiple airbags, cruse control and many more.

  • Hi Friends,

see, tata prima is lookig good in picture, but tata's cars have a great look. they don't have comfort as per there prices u can go for other car makers and compare it with comfort. u have other oppsions too in 12 lakh price tag.

if go through the service part of tata motars is the burst services in this industry, thats why people are resaleing the ARIA models in half rates.

so plz try other companies too.

    In 12 lakh price tag u can go for--HYUNDAI VERNA FLUDIC, RENAULT-FLUANCE, CHEVERLET-CRUZE, FORD-FIESTA, HONDA-CITY as well.

  • Wow wow wow.... Its just amazing to see this car rolling out. I've been waiting for it. I just wanna say a few things about this car.
    1. It Should should n must be a rear wheel drive car with 18 inch wheels.
    2. Dont make it a crazy shaped car like indigo.
    3. It should've 160 or more bhp.
    4. Making relevant changes in both bumpers itself ll give it an aggressive look.
    5. Tires must not go deep inside wheel arches, as in other tata cars.

  • I have Tata indigo 2003 model and I have run so far 127000 kms. Ofcourse maintainance is important. The car is realy good. I use this car on rough roads. I have enjoyed driving this car. The seating position is good in this car. Getting in and getting out is also good. Little power is required. Otherwise this car IS good.

  • Hi,
I am basically Tata cars lover.I maintained tata cars for many years. The service is very bad, they dont take compliants very serious. The suspension is very poor. The engine is not refined after 70,000kms.The last thing i can say is the quality control is poor.PLS improve the quality.

  • HI ! Every body, I do not think TATA is good for cars, Arial is a biggest blunder, looks good but non performing SUV, I am selling back within 4 months at half price as fedup with daily problems.
No fun in buying dear, go for good cars available in india like Skoda-Superb & Voks Wogan.
    Thanks

  • And service run by dealers who still push their weight around treating customers like truck drivers as they used to times when TATA was the monopoly truck seller and its dealers could even charge black on their sales

  • like all TATA n FIAT cars , it looks good ...

  • I hope Tata provides a more powerful engine in both petrol and diesel variants. May be a 1.8 litre or 2 litre petrol engine with 180 bhp and a 2 litre diesel engine with similar power would be just great. May be a V6 engine would also add a great interest amongst the buyers.

Because going by the looks, I am sure Tata will provide all the high end features, so only concern are...

    1) Multiple engine variants(And powerful engines which can achieve a 0-100kmph in around 8 seconds or less.)
    2) All wheel drive(AWD) option would be just great.
    3) A powerful music system with more than 6 speakers.

  • excellant finish in photo, great looking... i am on a look out to move from my current indica to a sedan... i am keen if some one form tata motors can write to me or call me on my mobile 9880105144 and give assurance on launch date.. i cannot believe any website like this, which keeps showing dates which has no sanctity and keeps on moving the date.. classic example linea 1.6l search for fun in this site.. meaning less dates..

I am a ex tata group employee and love to buy back a tata if prima can be assured of a delivery to me by nov/dec..
