TATA INDIGO 

Tata Indigo is a compact sedan car manufactured by the renowned Tata Motors. The Indigo comes in various variants that fit the ever changing preferences of the Indian customers. Tata Motors, which is an Indian auto giant, launched its Indigo car in the year 2002 and gave other cars in the segment tough competition. This car has been incorporated with numerous Indian specific features, which have contributed towards making it a popular sedan in the country.   

Tata Indigo is available in both petrol and diesel variants. Petrol variants are fitted with MPFI engine with 32-bit microprocessor. The MPFI engine helps in delivering a power packed performance, rendering maximum power of 83 bhp at 5500 rpm. On the other hand, the diesel variant comes well-equipped with DICOR (Direct Injection Common Rail) 16 valve engine which produces a maximum output of 69 bhp at 4000 rpm. 

The designing has been attention to while manufacturing the New Indigo. Built to impart a classy look, Tata Indigo has gained popularity for its appealing appearance. Talking in terms of the design and interiors, Tata Indigo sports an impressive front grille and headlamps. To support the rear end, there lies the trendy tail light cluster. Tata Indigo Launch History 

The history of the Tata Indigo dates back to 2002, when it was first unveiled. Tata Motors launched the indigenously built Tata Indigo, which soon became popular with the mass. Tata Indigo has similar features to that of the Tata Indica and is considered as the sedan version of the Indica. At the time of its launch, the Tata Indigo was loaded with a performance centric diesel and petrol engine series. The diesel variant of the Indigo was incorporated with the latest turbo diesel engine which was highly appreciated by its users at that point of time. This was because of the cutting edge technology incorporated in Tata Indigo. 

Indigo models such as Tata Indigo XL and Tata Indigo CS are categorised under the first generation Indigo models. The new Tata Indigo was launched with slight changes in its aerodynamic features and exterior appearance. These changes were basically restricted to its structural modification. The headlamps and bumpers were modified too, which further enhanced the looks of Tata Indigo 

Considering the safety features, Tata Indigo comes equipped with side impact beams and collapsible steering column, which reduces the impact of crash during accident or other unfortunate incidence. At present, the production of this vehicle has been discontinued and the model is no more available at the Tata showrooms. 

In the year 2007, Tata Indigo XL model was launched, which was accepted by the Indian customers with open arms. Having a long wheelbase of 200 mm, which also turned out to be one of its unique selling points, this model possessed some of the latest technological features of that period. Various other features were also incorporated in Tata Indigo, including the rear air conditioning console with separate controls, all four power windows with auto power down function and car phone. 

In the year 2008, Tata Motors sensed a need for another full fledged model and came up with the all new Indigo CS. This model was launched at the Auto Expo in the year 2008. Being categorised under the compact sedan model, this car enjoyed less excise duty which decreased the overall cost of this model. Besides, the compact sedan, Tata Indigo was launched in both petrol and diesel variants. The car was generally known for its spacious interiors and exterior structural designing, among other attributes. Tata Indigo CS petrol ran on 1.2 litre engine which delivered a maximum power of 64 bhp at 5000 rpm. The diesel variant was incorporated with the MPFI engine version and was designed in compliance with the Bharat Stage IV emission norms.

 

Tata Indigo Variants 

Tata Indigo car is available in six variants, namely Tata Indigo GLS, Tata Indigo GL X, Tata Indigo LS, Tata Indigo LX, Tata Indigo LS Dicor and Tata Indigo LX Dicor. All the variants of Tata Indigo have different engine configurations and they also consist of different engine types. Tata Indigo Marina is launched in the SUV segment, whereas all other variants of Tata Indigo are launched as sedans. The price of Tata Indigo ranges between Rs. 4.5 and 6 lacs. Tata Indigo GLS

Tata Indigo has engine displacement of 1193cc. This variant of Tata Indigo is fitted with a MPFI with 32 bit microprocessor, petrol engine. The maximum power generated by this engine is 64.11 bhp at 5000 rpm and the maximum torque is 100 Nm at 2700 rpm. It has a seating capacity of five adults and the fuel tank capacity of 42 litres.

Tata Indigo GLX

The engine configuration of the Tata Indigo GLX is similar to the Tata Indigo GLS. The common features of Indigo GLS and GLX are air conditioner, heater, power steering, front power windows and leather wrap gear shift knob. Additional feature, which is incorporated in the Tata Indigo GLX, is the power windows in the rear portion of the car.

Tata Indigo LS

Tata Indigo has engine displacement of 1396 cc. It consists of a common rail CR4, 16 valve DOHC engine. The maximum power generated by this engine is 69.04 bhp at 4000 rpm and maximum torque is 140 Nm at 3000 rpm. It runs on a five speed manual transmission, with five forward gears and one reverse.

Tata Indigo LX

Engine configuration of Tata Indigo LS and LX is same. The common features of both the models are air conditioner, heater, power steering, front power windows and leather wrap gear shift knob. Additional feature, which is incorporated in Tata Indigo LX, is the power windows in the rear portion of the car.

Tata Indigo LS Dicor

Tata Indigo LS Dicor consist a 32-bit microprocessor based, direct injection common rail fuel injection type, 16 valve engine. This engine offers a displacement of 1396 cc and the maximum power generated by this engine is 69.04 bhp at 4000 rpm. The maximum torque of this engine is 140 Nm at 3000 rpm. Turning radius of Tata Indigo LS Dicor is 5 metres and has the seating capacity of five people. Tata Indigo LS Dicor also has fog lamps but does not have power windows.   

Tata Indigo LX Dicor

The engine configuration of Tata Indigo LX Dicor is similar to Tata Indigo LS Dicor. Moreover, Tata Indigo LX Dicor does not have fog lamps, but it has been incorporated with power windows and rear wiper.

 

Tata Indigo Pricing 

The price of Tata Indigo ranges between Rs. 4.5 to 6 lacs. This price range of Tata Indigo varies between different states, depending upon the taxation policy adopted by the Government of that state. Different variants of Tata Indigo have different prices, depending upon the features and specifications incorporated within the car and the state. 

Price of Tata Indigo GLX ranges from Rs. 4.55 to 4.70 lacs, whereas the price of its upgraded model Tata Indigo GLS ranges between Rs. 4.65 and 4.80 lacs. Tata Indigo Interior 

The new Tata Indigo is a popular car by Tata Motors, which is a perfect sedan for long trips. It has been equipped with a well designed dashboard, which has few compartments where one can store things. The interiors of Tata Indigo have swathes of grey and aluminium centre console. Interior of the Tata Indigo is much spacious, with enough legroom and headroom.

In the petrol variant, the company offers two models, namely Tata Indigo GLS and Tata Indigo GLX. The petrol engine of Tata Indigo models are powered by 1396 cc MPFI engine with a 32-bit micro processor which enables the car to produce a maximum power of 64.11 bhp at 5000 rpm. The maximum torque of the engine is estimated to be 100 Nm at 2700 rpm. The company has also laid stress on the suspension in the front and rear. It uses an independent McPherson Strut with anti-roll bar as the front suspension and independent 3-link McPherson with anti-roll bar as the rear suspension. As per the company details, the petrol variant Tata Indigo GLS gives a mileage of 14.4 kmpl on the highway and 10 kmpl in the city, whereas the Tata Indigo GLX gives a mileage of 13.8 kmpl and 8.6 kmpl on the highway and city roads, respectively. 

In the diesel variant, the company offers two new models, namely Tata Indigo LS and Tata Indigo LX. Both these models are powered by a turbocharged 1405 cc indirect injection engine with intercooler. This car produces a maximum power of 69.04 bhp at 4000 rpm. The torque capacity of the diesel variants is believed to be 140 Nm at 3000 rpm. The diesel variants offer mileage of 17 kmpl on the highway and 12 kmpl in the city. 

Tata Indigo offers two Dicor variants, the Tata Indigo LS dicor and Tata Indigo LX dicor. The dicor models are powered by 32-bit micro processor based 1396 cc DICOR (direct injection common rail) 16 valve engine. It consists of a dual over head camshafts and a variable geometry turbocharger. It produces maximum power of 69.04 bhp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 140 Nm at 3000 rpm. Tata Indigo LX Dicor variant offers a mileage of 17 kmpl on the highway and 12 kmpl in the city, whereas the Tata Indigo Dicor LX has a fuel average of 17 kmpl on the highway and 13 kmpl on the city roads.

 

Tata Indigo On Road Drive 

All the three variants of Tata Indigo which is the petrol, diesel and Dicor variant offer a smooth drive to the passengers. The petrol variants such as Tata Indigo GLS and Tata Indigo GLX are quite popular as they possess spacious and comfortable interiors. On the other hand, the diesel variants are turbocharged and provide power-packed performance. The third variant which is the Dicor variant also does not lag behind in terms of comfort. 

 

Tata Indigo Power 

Tata Indigo is offered in the market in three variants which is the petrol, diesel and Dicor variant. These three variants are powered by three different engines, such as the petrol variant comes with a 1396 cc MPFI petrol engine with a 32-bit microprocessor. It produces maximum power of 64.11 bhp at 5000 rpm. On the other hand, the diesel and Dicor variants are facilitated with a turbocharged 1405 cc indirect injection engine and 1396 cc DICOR 16 valve engine, respectively. Tata Indigo Acceleration and Pick up 

In terms of acceleration, all the three variants differ from one another. The petrol variant boasts swift acceleration which enables the car to reach from 0-100 kmph in 15.27 seconds. The diesel variant, on the other hand, lags around a little bit, in terms of acceleration as compared to the diesel variant as it takes 18.9 seconds to reach a speed of 100 kmph. Moreover, the Dicor variant does not take much time to accelerate up to 100 kmph as it reaches this speed limit in just 17.7 seconds.

 

Tata Indigo Safety and Security 

Tata Motors has taken utmost care to incorporate safety and security measures while designing its cars. The petrol variant Tata Indigo GLS, however, does not have appropriate safety features as it lacks anti-lock braking system. Moreover, a standard central locking system has been fitted in the Tata Indigo GLX. The diesel LS model comes without anti-lock braking system and central locking, whereas the other diesel model Tata Indigo LX comes with standard central locking features. It is similar in the Dicor variant also, the first model Tata Indigo LS Dicor lacks in the safety features but the other model which is Tata Indigo LX, comes with standard central locking features.
