Tata Motors, world’s fourth largest truck manufacturer and India’s largest automobile maker, is heading towards expanding its empire above utility vehicles and in its bid to do so, the company introduced its Tata Indica in 1998. After tremendous response for the passenger vehicle and observing the drastic development in the tour and travel business of India, Tata Motors decided to launch a car which can be used for travelling purposes and thus Tata Indicab came in to existence in the year 2005.

The new Tata Indicab is an intelligent compact hatchback which is designed to carry tourists from point to point. Soon after its unveiling the hatchback can be seen rolling over in every corner of the country. Till date with its massive success the Indicab has added another feather in Tata’s crown. The vehicle is mostly popular among transport business companies due to its huge space and exceptional mileage. This travelling Tata Indicab is backed by powerful diesel engine and an array of safety features which assure you of complete protection inside the comfortable cabin.

Today, the Indicab has been phased out and is no more available with dealers. Before it was discontinued, the Tata Indicab was tagged in the price bracket of Rs 3.12 lakh (for Indicab DL BS III) to Rs 3.36 lakh (for Indicab DLE BS IV).

Engine and Specifications of the Tata Indicab

The Tata Indicab comes with a 1.4 L diesel engine, which has the capability to deliver a power of 53 PS at 5500 rpm and a topmost torque of 85 Nm at 2500 rpm. The Indicab gives a very good show with its top speed of 135 kmph and turning from 0 to 100 kmph in 25.7 seconds, which might not appeal the usual Tata Indica users, but will definitely satisfy the taxi cab owners.

The Tata Indicab delivers a mileage of 12.7 kmpl on the city roads, while 17.4 kmpl on the highways. That sums up to a satisfying overall mileage of 13.6 kmpl.

Exteriors of the Tata Indicab

Tata Indicab exteriors come with the signature Indica looks that wear a classy appearance. The front grille consists of Tata emblem; a symbol of trust and strength, along with clear glass headlamp. In the rear part the tail-lamps are pretty attractive as they resemble the traffic signal lights. The tail lights of the Tata Indicab are cleverly placed keeping in mind the maintenance cost of the buyer. Other feature includes remote fuel lid and overall sporty look.

Interiors of the Tata Indicab

As soon as you glide into the Tata Indicab you will be stunned to find ample space. The cab can seat 4-5 adults comfortably. As the car is targeted at the transport business, the space will surely appeal the taxi-cab owners; moreover the rear seats can be folded in order to boost the boot space.  The cab also offers sufficient head-room and legroom.

The Tata Indicab comes equipped with many safety features; some of them to name are the child safety locks, immobilizer, strong build up, etc.
