In April 2009, at Shanghai Auto Show, Rolls-Royce announced the launch of its most awaited sedan, Ghost. The production of this model was commenced from 2009 at the Goodwood plant in United Kingdom and the deliveries of these cars shortly began from the date of manufacturing in United States.

The Rolls Royce Ghost made its official entry in to the Indian automotive market in October 2011. Rolls Royce offers the Ghost to the Indian buyers as a CBU. At the launch of this car, Mr. Herfried Hasenoehrl, Rolls-Royce India Business Development Head spoke on the occasion. "India is one of the major markets for us in Asia. Therefore, we are looking at enhancing our distribution. I cannot say how many dealerships we are going to add, but we will increase our dealership network soon."

Rolls Royce has launched two variants of its Ghost model in India namely Rolls Royce Ghost Standard and Rolls Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase. The engine configuration of both the models is identical, although the overall length and wheelbase dimensions of these variants differs. Rolls Royce Ghost cars are incorporated with many advanced features, which create uniqueness in its own.

Main competitors of Ghost car are BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XF and Volvo S80. All these cars are in same segment but have different engine configuration.

BMW 7 series 740 Li is a luxurious sedan, which is equipped with a V8 petrol engine. Engine of BMW 7 series 740 Li delivers maximum power of 326 bhp at 5800 rpm and maximum torque of the engine is 450 Nm at a fairly low 1500 rpm. Jaguar XF is a powerful sedan, which is incorporated with a petrol engine of 5000 cc.
