The Hyundai i20 is one of the most popular hatchbacks that was rolled-out in the Indian market in year 2009. The i20 model is now available in both petrol and diesel versions, across 3 engine options i.e. 1.4 L, 1396cc Gamma AT Petrol, 1.2 L 1196cc Kappa Petrol & 1.4 CRDI Diesel Engine. The i20 is available in both automatic and manual transmission options, across various trims.

In April 2010, Hyundai rolled-out two new trims of the i20 model in the Indian market including the i20 Era and i20 Sportz. These new variants are available in both petrol and diesel versions. While the Era model was launched as the base variant, the Sportz model was launched to bridge the gap between Magna and Asta models. The new Hyundai i20 models come blessed with a range of new age technological features including Fully Automatic Temperature Control system and in-built USB port.

The Hyundai i20 model has been appreciated throughout the world for its impeccable style and power-packed performance, making it an attractive package to prospective buyers.

Engine & Specifications of the Hyundai i20

As mentioned above, the Hyundai i20 model is available in both petrol and diesel versions in the Indian market. The Petrol version of the car is available in two engine options including 1.2 L 1196cc Kappa engine and 1.4 L, 1396cc Gamma engine. While the 1.2L Kappa engine of i20 is capable of delivering a peak power of 80 PS at 5200rpm along with a maximum torque of 11.4kgm at 4000rpm, the i20's 1.4L Gamma engine delivers a maximum power of 100 PS at 5500rpm along with a Maximum Torque of13.9kgm at 4200rpm.

On the other hand, the 1.4L CRDI diesel engine of the Hyundai i20 generates a peak power of 90PS at 4000 rpm in combination with a maximum torque of 22.4kgm at 1750~2750 rpm.

All variants of the Hyundai i20 are comes coupled with a five speed manual transmission. The 1.4L gamma petrol engine variant of the car is also available in an optional four speed automatic transmission.

Performance of the Hyundai i20

The i20 model has been appreciated throughout the world for its powerful performance on the road. The 1.4L CRDI diesel engine variant of the car is the fastest among all variants of the i20 model as it takes just 13.2 seconds to break the speed barrier of 100 kmph. On the other hand, the 1.4L gamma petrol and 1.2L kappa petrol variants take 15.4 and 15.2 seconds, respectively, to reach the speed of 100 kmph. The 1.4L gamma, 1.4 CRDI and 1.2L kappa engines of the Hyundai i20 deliver a fuel economy of up to 15kmpl, 17 kmpl and 23 kmpl, respectively.
