The Volkswagen Golf is all set to hit the Indian roads as a hatchback model with compact and sleek looks. Volkswagen has not announced the final launch date, but it is expected around mid-2011. The car was named as the World Car of the Year 2009 by a jury comprised of 59 international automotive journalists from twenty-five countries around the world. The model was initially launched in 1974 and since then VW has sold more than 26 million units in more than 120 countries. As such, it is one of world’s most established models.
In India, the Golf will be manufactured at VW’s new plant at Chakan, near Pune, and will be available in petrol and diesel variants. The car is set to have a 2000cc petrol engine with a maximum power of 108bhp. The engine specifications reveal that it is fully geared up with no room for any complaint. The diesel engine is as of now unknown.
While the exterior of the car has fine cuts and an overall balanced look the interior of the Volkswagen Golf is quite beautiful too. With comfort and safety being the primary concerns, the interior of the car is designed carefully and has the uniqueness of Volkswagen. The car has the accommodation for four and has a moderate luggage space.
The Golf has a number of safety features like Air bags, parking sensors, fog lamps and ABS. Along with that the car has three rear seat belts fitted.

a golf will never cost between 6-7 lacs... although it is a hatchback.. it is a premium car which defined the hatchback segment... It should be around 12 lacs +

Besides all the features and luxury offered by this car, its success depends only upon its price. No problem about petrol variant but if diesel variant price goes beyond 7.5L means the buyers will prefer sedan instead of this luxurious hatchback..

Everything about this car is ok. I'm sure like polo and vento this car too gonna be a great success. But i think 1.6 TDI engine is better suited, since it is a hatchback car. But whatever, i'm gonna buy this car once it is launched.

the car india is waiting for.. hope volkswagen does not make the same mistake as honda did for its jazz and instead price the golf competetively. otherwise not many are going to fish out enough money for the golf when then can spend just a couple of lakhs more and drive away in any sedan.
