The all new Toyota Vios, expected to hit roads in the country in 2013, is a package of elegance, comfort, safety and a large number of advanced features. Though this four door subcompact sedan has been in the international market for quite sometime now, the car has not made its debut in the country so far and is desperately awaited here.
The Vios was first introduced in the year 2002 in Thailand as a replacement of Toyota Tercel and was placed below Toyota Corolla and Toyota Camry in the 1.5 litre subcompact segment. While the first generation Vios was widely appreciated, the second generation Vios introduced in 2007 with more comfort and convenience features and a flat rear floor too achieved a lot of fame. The second generation Vios in Singapore and some other countries is available in three grades – J, E and G. While the G is the top grade, the J is the base grade. All the three variants are expected to be launched in the country as well and an additional TRD Sportivo too may be sold in India.
The Vios to be introduced in India boasts of stunning exterior with sleek lines, stylish curves and a touch of sophistication. The headlamps of the all new Vios has been uniquely designed, with smoked finishing. However, the most distinguishing and eye catching feature on the exterior of the Vios is its sleek advanced chrome radiator grille. The interiors of the Vios is equally appealing as its exteriors with several comfort features, neatly designed cabin and ample amount of space. The all new Vios houses split folding rear seats that provide a large amount of space and is suitable for keeping big sized baggage. The boot space of the Vios is also decent, which along with storage cabins, together makes up a good amount of space.
The 1.5 TRD Sportivo variant available in Malaysia and expected to be launched in the country too, has its steering wheel wrapped in leather with red stitching, which together gives a firm grip. The centre console of the all new 1.5 TRD model has been finished in carbon fibre pattern that makes the overall cabin aesthetically superior. The car would come with 2-DIN Audio system with Steering Audio Controls making it easy to enjoy music.
The all new Toyota Vios is expected to house a 4-Cylinder In-line, 16 Valve DOHC engine capable of delivering a good power for a compact sedan. The car will come with a large number of safety features which include ABS, EBD, Brake Assist (BA) and dual SRS Airbags, Anti-Jam Protection Window and many more; thus, ensuring utmost safety of the passengers. The Vios available in other Asian countries is known for its performance; hence is a complete car on all parameters.
The all new Vios when launched in the country is expected to carry a price tag between Rs. 12 lacs and Rs. 18 lacs and would compete against the likes of Skoda Laura, Hyundai Elantra and Volkswagen Jetta.
Engines and Specifications of Toyota Vios
The all new 2013 Toyota Vios will be powered by a 4-cylinder In-line, 16 Valve, DOHC with VVT-i powertrain, capable of delivering a maximum power of 107 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The engine would come mated to a 4 speed automatic gearbox that would provide smoother gear shifts. Just like those available in other Asian countries, the all new Vios in India too is expected to have a MacPherson strut with Stabiliser chassis on the front and Torsion beam on the rear. In order to provide a thrilling driving experience, the Vios would come with an Electric Power Steering and a host of safety and security features.
The 2013 Toyota Vios would be provided with Ventilated disc brake on the front and Solid Disc on the rear. Safety features like ABS, EBD and brake assist are also likely to come in the all new Vios. The Toyota Vios available in the foreign markets has a very small turning radius of just 4.9 metres; thus, making it easy to drive through even congested roads and curves.
Performance of Toyota Vios
The Toyota Vios is known for precise handling and optimum performance and is designed to give control and comfort. The engine of the car has been developed with Toyota's trademark technology, Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i), that automatically adjusts the intake valve timing and provide more powerful acceleration, apart from better fuel economy and less CO2 emissions. The Super Electronic Controlled Transmission (ECT) facilitate in smoother gear shifts. Moreover the linear acceleration is also provided as the ECT selects the best gear position in order to provide hassle-free driving, independent of whether travelling uphill or downhill.
The all new Toyota Vios would come with Electric Power Steering (EPS) that helps in better mileage of the car as power is used only to assist steering when required. With a turning radius of merely 4.9 metres, the all new Toyota Vios would prove to be an ultimate city car as it would be easy to drive through narrow U-turns and small parking spots. On the whole, the performance of the 2013 Vios can be expected to be great.

The 2013 Toyota Vios would come with eye catching exteriors with sleek lines, stylish curves and splendid headlamps. The Vios, which had been developed to give a true meaning of desire to driver, has the ability to excite the person holding the steering wheel. The G model comes with elegant front and rear spoilers, side skirting and trunk spoiler, all of which gives it a touch of sophistication and makes the all new Vios captivating from all angles.
The headlamps have a distinguished looks that has been sleekly designed, the aesthetic appearance of which is further enhanced with an attractive smoked finishing. The first thing to draw attention in the Vios, apart from its headlamps, is the sleek advanced chrome radiator grille. The all new Vios is expected to come wearing dynamically designed 12-spoke alloy wheels that would give the car a sporty look. The all new Vios would be available in the country in a range of colours.
The interiors of the all new Vios is a combination of comfort & convenience and aesthetics. The all new Vios to hit roads in India soon is expected to be provided with sleek beige combination leather seats that would be designed to reflect the Indian lifestyle. The interiors of the Vios have been designed with every small attention to detail, like rich leather wrapping on the steering wheel and shift lever knob.
The 2013 Vios would come with six speakers distributed evenly throughout the cabin and would be fitted with switches on the steering wheel, making it easy to navigate between various features to enjoy music in the best possible way. Apart from the infotainment section, the car has been designed keeping every need of people in mind. There are plenty of space for luggage as well. The Vios available in the foreign markets are provided with 60:40 split folding rear seats that provide more space to accommodate luggage. There are plenty of boot space also, which can be opened with just the press of a button. There are other well designed storage areas as well, which can store several desired items with ease. The all new Vios would come with spacious leg room so that the passengers can stretch comfortably and would be provided with comfy seats to provide more luxury.
The all new Vios comes with a host of safety and security features, ensuring worry-free drives everytime. The car would come fitted with features like Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Anti-locking brake system (ABS), which prevents the wheel from locking when applying brakes on slippery roads. The EBD uniformly distributes braking power to each wheel as per the driving conditions; thereby, enhancing the ABS feature. The all new Vios would also be provided with Brake Assist (BA) and dual SRS Airbags. In case of a frontal collision, the airbags inflate instantly preventing the driver and the front passenger from major injuries. The all new 2013 Vios would also be provided with Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) Front Seats, which would reduce the risk of neck injuries during a rear end collision. Another safety feature called Anti-Jam Protection Window would also be provided for the driver, which prevents injury and pinching during raising the window. Another advanced safety feature to come in Vios is the Seat Belt Pretensioner & Force Limiter, which make use of sensors to tighten the seat belt during the start of a collision to secure the occupant. The car will have many other advanced safety features including immobiliser, siren with backup battery, tilt sensor and many more.
