Overview of Mitsubishi Mirage

Mitsubishi in India is making foray into the compact car segment with the forthcoming Mitsubishi Mirage. The Japan based car maker is launching the hatchback in the B segment, which is specifically designed and engineered to target Indian consumers. The compact car was first unveiled at the international automotive event, Geneva Auto Expo in 2011. Thereafter, the model was also put on exhibition at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Mitsubishi Mirage is expected to be launched in Thailand in March, thereafter in India by mid-2012. As per industry sources, the expected price of the compact hatchback will lie within Rs. 4.5 lacs to Rs. 5.5 lacs. With the launch of Mitsubishi Mirage in India, the Japanese manufacturer is seeking another life in the high-potential Indian automotive industry after their average performance in other car segments. The urban car will be pitted against well-established league players like Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat, Maruti Suzuki A-Star and Ford Figo.

Engine and Technical Specification of Mitsubishi Mirage

Mitsubishi Mirage in India is expected to be available in two engine options, one powered by 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and other configured with 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine. These new age engines are combined with advanced technologies such as start/stop engine management system and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The advanced continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) enables proportionate distribution of power between front wheels.

The upcoming Mitsubishi Mirage is equipped with fuel efficient engines and integrated with advanced technologies. It delivers fuel mileage figure of 25 kmpl, which will beat several counterparts in the same league.

Exteriors, Interiors and Safety Features of Mitsubishi Mirage

As far as dimensions are concerned, Mitsubishi Mirage measures 3710 mm in length and is 1665mm wide. At its peak, the car stands 1490 mm above the ground, making it more compact than other cars like Nissan Micra. The exteriors are basic, although slender grille, aerodynamic wheel covers and a roof-mounted spoiler are its highlights.

On the same lines, interiors are designed and engineered on ‘simple and clean’ philosophy. As per this philosophy, more room is created within the car. As a result, the cabin space has increased by a great extent. Among most noteworthy interior features are gloss black trim, metallic accents and sporty instrument cluster. Moreover, there are several comfort and convenience arrangements within the car cabin to ascertain hassle-free on-road pursuit.

In context of safety, Mitsubishi Mirage has various active and passive safety arrangements for passengers sitting in the front as well as rear. Adjustable seatbelts with pre-tensioners, advanced anti-lock braking system with electronic brake distribution and child lock are some of the standard safety features of the compact car.
