Maybach History
Maybach Company was founded as Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH (Aircraft Engine Building Company) in the year 1909. Wilhelm Maybach, a former technical director of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) incorporated the venture for manufacturing aircraft engines. Karl Maybach, son of Wilhelm Maybach, was director of this venture.
In 1912, the incorporation was renamed as Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH (Maybach Engine Construction Company), which manufactured diesel and petrol engines for Zeppelins and thereafter, rail cars engines. The inaugural car from the manufacturer was an experimental car in 1919. First model of the car rolled out two years later, which was also showcased at the Berlin Motor Show. There were several luxurious car models launched by the company between 1921 and 1940. Maybach Company continued building heavy duty diesel engine for marine and rail purposes.
Production was halted during WW II, which was resumed 20 years later, when Daimler-Benz acquired the company in 1960. Mercedes-Benz introduced Mercedes-Benz Maybach (V12, 5987 cc, and 550 hp) at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1997. Thereafter, Mercedes-Benz has been engaged in producing and marketing ultra-luxury cars in the name of Maybach. Maybach Founder
Wilhelm Maybach laid the foundation of one of the most popular high-end luxury cars across the world.
