Hyundai Elantra Fluidic is next luxury car on which the company is betting high after the new Sonata. Since the buyers in India did not respond well to the car, Hyundai decided not to launch the fourth generation of Elantra in the country. However, the company showcased a new generation model of Elantra at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo and with the positive response of audience, Hyundai decided to make a come back in the market.

Hyundai Elantra Fluidic will be placed in the executive sedan segment of Indian auto industry, post launch. The car will be imported within the country in the form of Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units and will be then assembled at the company’s Chennai facility. However, the company had recently lined-up the launches of two new cars, Sonata and revamped version of i20.

Hyundai Elantra was introduced initially in 2004 in the Indian auto industry and was then discontinued in 2008. The discontinuation of Elantra led the company suffer since it does not have any option left in executive sedan segment of the Indian market. It was fairly critical for the company to introduce a new player in the segment since it was loosing a decent market share. Owing to this, the company decided to launch Elantra Fluidic in the market, which is likely to perform as per the expectations of the company.

Engines & Specifications of Hyundai Elantra Fluidic

Hyundai Elantra Fluidic is expected to be offered with an option of two different engines, petrol and diesel. The petrol version is anticipated to have a 1.8 litre VTVT engine, which will have the potential to generate maximum power of 148 bhp at 6500 rpm. The peak torque generated by the petrol power-train will stand at 131 Nm at 4700 rpm. As far as diesel model is concerned, the car is expected to be assimilated with a 1.6 litre CRDi motor, which will generate highest power of 126 bhp and maximum torque of 265 Nm.

Hyundai Elantra Fluidic is provided with an option of manual as well as automatic transmission system, in order to improve the performance of this power oriented engine. The buyer can opt for any of the mentioned transmission system - six speed manual or an automatic gearbox.

Performance of Hyundai Elantra Fluidic

Hyundai Elantra Fluidic will be bound to deliver decent performance, since the engine of this car has impressive output. It is anticipated that the new Elantra will smoothly glide from 0-100 kmph within a short span of 12.3 seconds which will be followed by a top speed of 170 kmph. Although the engine of Elantra Fluidic stands well on output, it does not sacrifice on the grounds of fuel economy. It is speculated that in city driving conditions, the car covers a distance of 14.71 kmpl whereas it runs 20.41 kmpl on highway roads.

Hyundai Elantra Fluidic will deliver a stiff competition to other cars of the same segment. The executive segment is currently ruled by Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Skoda Laura and Toyota Corolla Altis. All these cars lie in a same segment but have different USP. Comparing Elantra Fluidic with Chevrolet Cruze, Cruze is assimilated with a VCDi 16V SOHC four cylinder engine, which has a displacement of 1991 cc. The maximum power produced by the engine of this car is 147 bhp at 4000 rpm, whereas it attains highest torque of 327 Nm at a low 2600 rpm. With these output, the engine of this car also delivers a decent mileage of 17.34 kmpl. To assist the performance of this engine, the company has offered an option of two transmission systems – five speed manual and a six speed automatic gearbox.

Hyundai Elantra’s next close competitor is Honda Civic, which has i-VTEC 1.8 litres four cylinders in-line engine. The petrol engine of this car is similar to that of Elantra, which has a displacement of 1799 cc. Maximum power produced by this engine is 130 bhp at 6300 rpm, which is less than that of Elantra’s as its petrol engine produces 148 bhp. Highest torque generated by the engine of Civic stands at 172 Nm at 4300 rpm. The car is available in an option of two types of transmission systems, manual as well as automatic.

Hyundai Elantra will also be put against Skoda Laura, which boasts a number of decent features. Laura flaunts a decent chrome package which covers surround radiator grille, trims of infotainment system, trims of steering wheels, interior door handles, gear shift selector, storage compartment lids of dashboard and front as well as rear console. The interiors of car are designed using wood on the dashboard, centre console and all the door panels. Adding to the elegance of interiors, the company has designed them using ivory colour upholstery, which provides a warm welcome to its passengers. Along with these, the safety of passengers is also a key advantage of the car. The company has incorporated features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Mechanical Brake Assistant (MBA), Anti Slip Regulation (ASR), Traction Control System (TCS) and Hydraulic Brake Assistant (HBA). All these features add to an extra sense of feel to its occupants.

Hyundai Elantra Fluidic will also compete with Toyota Corolla Altis in executive sedan segment of the Indian auto industry. Toyota Corolla Altis is placed in D segment, which has robust build quality and value of the brand. The car holds a VVTi engine that has a displacement of 1794 cc. Peak power produced by the engine of this car is 138 bhp at 6400 rpm, while it attains maximum torque at 173 Nm at 4000 rpm. The performance oriented engine of this car is assimilated with six speed manual transmission system, which offers smooth and easy switching. In a view to deliver a hassle free drive to the passengers of the car, the company has incorporated MacPherson strut suspensions in the front portion and torsion beam at the rear end. Although Corolla Altis is a sedan, its turning radius is 5.30 metres which is fairly impressive in this segment. Apart from decent space at interiors, the boot of Altis is also very spacious as it can hold luggage equivalent to 475 litres.
