Hyundai Genesis

Expected: Early 2013
Hyundai Genesis

Hyundai Genesis is a luxury sports car that is expected to make in-roads into Indian luxury car segment. Already available in international markets as a sedan and a coupé, this car is among the front runners of Hyundai stable. The car was displayed as a concept car in the New York International Auto Show of 2007. Later it became a part of assembly line and was produced continuously for North American and Korean Markets. Genesis with a distinction of being Hyundai’s first rear wheel drive sports car was launched to break into the markets of BMW 5 Series and Mercedes Benz E Class.

The coupé version launched in later years is a masterpiece in true sense. Its purposeful aerodynamic designing is backed by path breaking technologies. It comes with a 2 litre turbocharged and another 3.8 litre V6 engine which provide it an exceptional power to weight ratio. The sedan has already proved its worth winning the ‘North American Car of the Year’ and ‘Canadian Car of the Year’ awards in year 2009. In India, these cars are probably going to create a new segment altogether. If launched, the coupé could be priced in a range of Rs. 10 lacs to Rs.12 lacs, which is closer to its price in United States and that would be a very interesting proposition for Indian customers.

Engines & Specifications of the Hyundai Genesis

Though it’s a fact that coupes have not yet struck a chord with Indian customers, Hyundai Genesis could become an exception. Its 3.8 V6 DOHC engine delivers 299 hp, while producing 360 Nm of torque. The other 2 litre engine generates 207 hp power and 300 Nm of torque. The rear wheel drive vehicle comes with six speed automatic and manual transmission options.

For Indian conditions company would like to consider a tuning of engines to make them more fuel efficient, while chassis and tyre would require a complete overhaul. Genesis Sedan is a class act coming with 3.4, 3.8 and 4.7 litre engines. It will be interesting to see which and how many of these engines venture into Indian markets.

Performance of the Hyundai Genesis

The two cars sharing same name are similar in very few aspects of design, technology and performance. The coupé is a much lighter and at the same time is much quicker than sedan. It reaches 100 kmph mark from standstill in just 5.7 seconds. The emission levels of both cars comply with latest international norms, while the mileage is somewhat on the lower end.

Exterior, Interior & Safety Features of the Hyundai Genesis

The full sized Genesis sedan is characterised by its unique LED headlights, alloy wheels, chrome accents near the lower side panel of doors and radiator grille. The rear design has also been improved recently and looks more attractive with larger tail lights. The rear bumpers also include chrome tipped dual exhaust tail pipes that are integrated in its design. The interiors include leather upholstery and a whole lot of accessories for communication and drivingassistance.

Genesis coupe is altogether a different vehicle with a lesser ground clearance and aerodynamic design. The car has got HID Xenon Headlights at the front and an exhaust system integrated with the rear diffuser at the rear including dual asymmetrical chrome exhaust tips. The two door car is essentially designed to attract attention. The interiors are suited well for two individuals and include sedan like luxury features.
