Honda Jazz Overview

Honda Jazz – The Luxury Small Car

Honda had launched its luxury small car Jazz in the Indian small car segment in June 2009. The car instantly bagged the coveted “Car of the Year” award from NDTV Profit Car India Bike India for 2010 but it has not been able to generate volumes for the company owing to its hefty price tag. However, the car still remains a prized possession, laden with complete luxury features that are absent in any other model in the popular small car segment in India.

Exteriors of Honda Jazz

Honda Jazz has a sleek and aerodynamic design which is quite expected from any Honda car. The Jazz’s design is sporty and stylish with sharp lines and bold exteriors. Steep windscreen with sharp headlamps and a front grille with CRV looks leave the onlookers quite impressed.

Interiors of Honda Jazz

As you enter the car, it is one car that gives you an instant feel of luxury and pampers your senses with its soft tone interiors. The Honda Jazz definitely beats i20 or any other model in the premium hatchback segment. There is sufficient leg room and cushioning is also quite soft.

The car has best quality interiors but it lacks some basic interior features even in the base model. If the car’s price tag is so hefty, then Honda could have easily included features like climate control, auto headlamps, auto wiper and leather seats. The base model comes with standard features like air conditioner, power steering, power windows, central locking, anti-lock braking system and a CD player.

Other impressive features are control buttons on steering, rear defogger, tinted glass, steering adjustment, driver seat adjustments, etc.

Engine of the Jazz

Honda Jazz is powered by 1.2L i-VTEC engine with 5-speed manual transmission. Honda cars deliver good performance and a 90PS power @ 6000 rpm and 116 Nm Torque @ 4900 rpm from Honda Jazz with its 4-cylinder engine beats all other models in its segment. It gives acceleration of 0-100 kmph in 11.2 seconds and attains a top speed of 165 kmph.

Honda claims the model to deliver mileage of 16kmpl on highways and 13 kmpl on the city roads. It is available in three variants – Basic, Active and Sport.

Drive Quality

Honda Jazz is a smooth and noiseless car and the test drive leaves you quite impressed. The car has impressive acceleration and breaking that gives superb handling on city roads. The Jazz is meant for luxury and you definitely need not worry about its performance.

Key Features of Limited Edition Model

Honda has introduced special limited editions of the Jazz in India to celebrate the occasion of winning the “Car of the Year” Award. The Limited Edition model comes with additional features with front and rear mud guards, alloy wheels and rear parcel shelf.

Honda has also introduced three more variants of the Honda Jazz at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010 this year – Jazz Holiday, Jazz Music and Jazz Sport. All three models will be launched in India in next 12 months span.

Conclusion

Honda Jazz fails to make an impression on serious Indian car buyers who are also extremely price sensitive. The car may have good looks and comfortable interiors along with Jazzy performance but at the end of the day price does matter. The car is priced at a bit over Rs. 7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) which is still quite pricy for the Indian small car buyer.
