Honda Brio is the second hatchback from the company in India, after the Honda Jazz. Even though, the Jazz had a powerful engine and numerous comfort features, it did not perform well in the Indian car market due to its high price. Honda Brio Launch History
The much awaited Honda Brio was launched in the Indian market by the company on 27th September 2011. Brio was first unveiled at the New Delhi Auto Expo and the company had plans to launch the car in both Indian and Thai markets. The earlier model, Honda Jazz, failed to attract customers as the price tag of this car was slightly higher. However, the company did not commit the same mistake with Brio and priced it reasonably. The company has introduced four variants of Brio in India, namely the Brio E MT, Brio S MT, Brio S (O) MT, and Brio V MT.
It is expected that the new Brio will compete with Toyota Etios Liva, Ritz, Swift, Figo, Chevrolet Beat and Volkswagen Polo. The car has 1.2 litre i-VTEC engine, which delivers high power and torque. It can comfortably accommodate five passengers. Honda Brio car is loaded with various advanced features like EPS Stability control and push-button keyless start, projector beam headlamps and traction control system (TCS). The car also has Brake assist function, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD and i-VSP Intelligent vehicle stability program (AWD models only). Honda Brio Review
Maximum priority has been given by the company to the front seats of this car, along with compromising a bit on the boot space and rear seats. The aggressively tipped forward stance of new Honda Brio is also evident. Low window lines of the car give maximum visibility from the front seats. The 1198 cc four cylinder engine of the car generates maximum power. Compared to the larger Jazz, the car weighs 70 kg less, rendering maximum advantage as per as power-to-weight ratio is concerned.
In Thailand, the company has offered a CVT version, but the launch of the same version in India has not been confirmed. The car comes with electrically adjusted steering wheel, which is useful for city driving. Ride quality of Honda Brio is bit disappointing as it feels lumpy over poor roads. However, at high speed, the ride quality improves. Braking system of this car is excellent and it has higher stopping power as well. Honda has done good job regarding external noise suppression. Driving of Brio is somewhat similar to that of Jazz, but both differ in cabin sizes. The wheel base of Brio is around 150 mm lesser than Jazz.
Seats of new Honda Brio have thin backrests, which provide comfort to the passengers. A bit more legroom is provided by the scooped-out glovebox of the car. Some amount of cost cutting is also done by the company. Seats of the car have no adjustable headrests, which is a drawback. Instead of a costly hatch, only a pane rear glass is used. Furthermore, there is no wiper or defogger present. The car comes with dual airbags and anti-lock brakes as standard. In spite of cost saving efforts, the interior of the car is carefully designed.
Being a city car, 2011 Honda Brio has a reasonable amount of agility. The compact shape of this car makes it ideal for city driving. The car is not only attractive, but also reasonably comfortable.
