Ford Motor Company
Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903 and it is an American multinational corporation, which is situated in the suburbs of Detroit. Ford Motor Company also owns Aston Martin of England, Mazda of Japan and Volvo Cars of Sweden. Ford Motor Company was founded by Henry Ford. Ford is the company, which introduced the technique of producing cars in large-scale (using an assembly line) and that technique was named as Fordisim. This method was designed by Henry Ford and it was well-known around the globe by the year 1914. Ford is the fourth largest automaker in the world in terms of the units sold annually.

Ford Motor Company was started in 1903 from the investment of $28, 000 by 12 people. Henry Ford initially started the company in the name of Henry Ford Company in 1901 and that name was changed into Cadillac Motor Company in 1902. Initially the company was producing very few cars with the labor of two or three men. Over the course of time the company grew to become one of the world’s most profitable and largest companies.
In 1964, Ford Motor Company unveiled the Ford Mustang, which is their most famous and popular sports car. It was released at the New York World’s Fair. Ford Mustang has five generations and the fifth generation was introduced in 2005 and the model is running successfully till now. This model is one of the most successful models of Ford Motor Company.
Ford Motor Company is well-known for producing everyday use vehicles and NASCAR’s race vehicles. Ford Company produces cars used for various sports series like The Craftsman Truck Series (model Ford F-150), The Sprint Cup Series and The Nationwide Series. Model mid-size Fusion was used in the last two series.
Between 2004 and 2009, the Ford Company has produced a few hybrid cars too. For instance, in 2004, the organization released the Ford Escape Hybrid, in 2006, they unveiled the Mercury Mariner Hybrid, in 2008 the organization launched Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan Hybrid and recently in 2009, the organization has the 2009 Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX Hybrid.
Based on sales, Ford Motor Company is the third largest automobile manufacturer in the United States. Ford Company has stayed within the Ford family for over 100 years. In these modern days, most of the leading automobile companies have moved into manufacturing fuel flexible cars and hybrid cars and Ford Motor Company is one among such. Some of the popular fuel flexible Ford cars are – the Ranger, Crown Victoria, Ford F-150, Taurus, Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car and the Focus.
Ford in India
Ford India Private Limited is solely owned by its parent organization Ford Motor Company. Ford India was launched in 1995 in the name of Mahindra Ford India Limited. The headquarters of the company were situated in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the leading automobile manufactures in India.
In 1996, Ford India Private Limited started its production in its manufacturing plant located in Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai. Ford started its operations in 1926 itself but unfortunately the company was shut down in 1954. In 1995, Ford Company started its operation in India again in a joint venture with Mahindra Ford India Limited (MFIL) and in 1998 they renamed the organization as Ford India Private Limited.
FIPL’s main plant is located in Maraimalar Nagar, which is 45 kilometers away from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The plant has the capacity to manufacture 100, 000 units annually.
Ford Company sold the ownerships of its past UK subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata Motors, India in March 2008.

Henry Ford is the founder of Ford Motor Company. He was 40 years old when he founded the company. He lived between the years 1963 and 1947. He is also the originator of mass production of the modern assembly lines. By owning Ford Motor Company he became one of the most well-known and richest people in the world. He is remembered for having respected his employees and paying high wages to his workers. Henry ford was credited with “Fordism”, which means the method of producing inexpensive automobile in mass number by using assembly line. Henry Ford invested most of his wealth on Ford Foundation.

The oval shape of the Ford logo came into sight in 1912 and the blue color was added in 1927 for the Model A. In 2003, a new blue colored oval shape logo was released to honor 100 years of the Ford Motor Company and that is known as the “Centennial Blue Oval”.

Currently, Ford India Private Limited has 164 dealerships throughout the country including 28 new dealerships. In 2009, Ford India had 480 staff members for sales at dealerships but in 2010 the company plans to triple their work force to 1500.

Ford future plan
Ford Motor Company has great future plans and the company has invested $500 million to increase the ability of its plant to 200,000 units annually. Apart from that, the company has set its goal to manufacture 250,000 engines every year.
Ford Motor Company plans to launch lots of new products in the next five years and at least one new product every 12-18 months. Ford India’s first release will be the New Fiesta Sedan, which is expected to release in 2011 and this new Ford Fiesta price will be somewhere between 6-8 lacs.
Mulally, one of Ford’s key people said that India plays a significant role in Asia-Pacific and so the company plans to introduce many cars in India and a wide variety of units in the near future.

Ford Fiesta was unveiled in India in 2005 and currently comes in seven variants. This compact luxury sedan comes in both petrol and diesel engines and all the models come with five-speed manual transmissions.
