Introduction to the Chevrolet Camaro

The US based leading car maker General Motors is planning to launch the fifth generation of its luxury sports sedan – Chevrolet Camaro – in the Indian market by mid-2011. The Camaro model has been developed on GM’s new Zeta Platform, and a concept of Camaro model was displayed at the 10th Delhi International Auto Expo in January 2010, where it had attracted a large number of car enthusiasts and visitors. The Chevrolet Camaro was in fact awarded with ‘best in show’ car at the event.

The Chevrolet Camaro is expected to be rolled-out in two types of engines in India including 3.6L V6 petrol engine and 6.2L V8 engine. These two engines of the car will be available across five trim levels including LS, 1 LT, 2LT, 1SS & 2SS, out of which the first three with 3.6L V6 engine remaining two (1SS & 2SS) with 6.2 L V8 engine.

The Camaro model will come blessed with a range of new age features comprising of advanced safety and security features. The car is expected to be shelved in the price bracket of Rs 25 to Rs 30 lakh where it will be competing with the starting range sedans of BMW, Audi and Mercedes.

Engine & Specifications of Chevrolet Camaro

As mentioned above, the Camaro model will be rolled-out in two engine options including a 3.6L V6 engine and a 6.2L V8 engine. The 3.6L petrol engine of the Camaro is capable of delivering a peak power of 312hp@6500 RPM along with a peak torque of 278Nm@5100 rpm. On the other hand, the highly powered 6.2L V8 engine of the car is capable of delivering a peak power of 426bhp at 5900rpm along with the maximum torque of 278 Nm at 5100 rpm.

Both engine variants of the Camaro will come powered by a 6-speed automatic transmission option. The exterior dimensions of the car are as follows - length - 190.4 inch; width - 75.5 inch and height -54.2 inch.

Performance of the Chevrolet Camaro

The fifth generation of the Camaro model will come loaded with a range of performance boosting features including the likes of Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, remote vehicle starter system, independent rear suspension and variable-ratio power steering, Power Driver & Passenger Side Mirrors, StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System, Traction Control System and many more. However, the mileage, acceleration and pick-up stats of the Indian version of the car are yet to be revealed by the company.

Exterior, Interior and Safety Features of the Chevrolet Camaro

The Camaro model is blessed with a mighty muscular exterior that comes powered by a range of new age styling and assisting features including deep inset eyes shaped high-intensity discharge headlamps and glowing LED halo rings, sculpted rear shoulders and uniquely styled front grille.

The interiors of the Camaro model are expected to be blessed with high quality materials. However, the details of the interiors of the Indian version of the car are yet to be disclosed by the company.

The major safety features of the Camaro would be StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System, Traction Control System, ABS, EBD and many more.
