Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0, a Hatchback has 5 versions available in India. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 has 4 Petrol cars and 1 CNG cars. Other popular cars in the similar price range of Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 are Hyundai i10, Hyundai Santro Xing and Tata Indica V2 Xeta. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 comes in 7 colours, namely, Bakers Chocolate, Breeze Blue, Ecru Beige, Glistening Grey, Passion Red, Silky Silver, Superior White.
The WagonR, one of the best selling Maruti Suzuki cars in India, received some significant exterior and interior updates in 2013. Though the overall design of the car, despite receiving the update, remained almost similar, it managed to look refreshing. That said, the car felt more comfortable and feature-rich with some new add-ons. The new model came with additional features such as tilt adjustable electronic power steering, music system with integrated AUX-in and USB ports, high-grade upholstery, electric ORVM, optional ABS, dual airbag and few more. The WagronR continues to be powered by the same 1.0-litre KB Series petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 67.1bhp with 90Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the CNG variant delivers power of 58.2bhp with 77Nm of torque. For better fuel efficiency, the eco-friendly CNG motor is boasted with the Intelligent Gas Port Injection (i-GPI) i-fuel technology.

The various fuel trims in Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 are priced differently. The Petrol trims are priced between Rs. 3,85,588/- to Rs. 4,81,682/-. The CNG trims of Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.0 start at Rs. 4,78,936/-.
The hatchback features a new chromed front grille, bigger headlamps, large bumper with wide airdam, sporty fog lamps and blue tinted parking lamps at the front end, while the side profile is enhanced by ORVMs, a slanting roof with body coloured roof-rails and new wheel arches. The rear end received a signature logo on the chrome strip, wider rear windscreen, larger tail-lamps and chrome detailing. The top variant comes with 14-inch 155/65 R14 tyres, while the base and mid variants get the 13-inch 145/80 R13 tyres. The hatchback measures 3595mm in length, 1495mm (with side moulding) and 1475mm (base trim) in width and 1700mm in height with a wheelbase of 2400mm. It has a ground clearance of 162mm.
The new model is more spacious, comfortable and well-equipped than the old one. The dual-tone (Beige & Black) theme and rich blue and black upholstery add more to its interior. The car gets some additional features such as a new music system with better sound quality, FM, CD player and USB and AUX-in connectivity, climate control, air conditioner with heater and rotary AC knob and more.
The hatchback is available in petrol and CNG fuel options. The petrol variant is powered by a light-weight 1.0-litre KB series petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 67.1bhp at 6200rpm with a torque of 90Nm at 3200rpm. It isn’t one of the most fuel efficient Maruti Suzuki cars in India, but it, still, returns a decent mileage of 18.9kmpl. The CNG motor with intelligent gas port injection (i-GPLI) bi-fuel technology churns out a maximum power output of 58.2bhp at 6200rpm, while yielding a torque of 77Nm at 3500rpm. The car accelerates 0-100kmph in 15.9 seconds with a top speed of 148kmph.
Performance and Handling
The ride quality and handling are much improved in the updated model. The light steering is good for city driving, but it needs to be tuned for highways. Gearshift and clutch are hard too. Engine lacks punch. The NVH levels and body roll are acceptable.
The front ventilated disc brakes and the rear drum brakes with 8-inches booster assisted brakes perform well. The optional ABS, offered on top-trim, handles sudden braking situation and offers stability on slippery roads.
The 998 cc CNG - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 14 km/kg in city and 16 km/kg on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 14 kmpl on urban roads and 16 kmpl and freeways, respectively.
The new model comes equipped with standard active and passive safety features such as front and rear fog lamps, halogen headlamps with headlamp levelling function, front and rear ELR seat belts, child proof rear door locks, rear wipers, de-fogger and washer, high-mounted stop lamp, warning lamps and few more. The optional dual SRS airbag and ABS are available only with the top-variant.
With improved ride quality and handling, the hatchback proves to be a decent urban car. However, the interior quality and engine performance could have been better. It’s neither one of the fuel efficient Maruti Suzuki cars in India nor a disappointment. Like most Maruti Suzuki car models the WagonR too is affordable and easy to maintain.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR Vs Hyundai i10
The WagonR has outdated tall-boxy design, while the i10 appears more outgoing. Maruti Suzuki’s hatchback offers a well-packed cabin with ample headroom, though the material quality isn’t up to the mark. In terms of features, comfort and space, the interior of i10 is lot better than the WagonR. The engines of both the vehicles are equally efficient and powerful. When it comes to the ride quality, the WagonR takes a lead over its rival.
